"How many clients you got today?" Nyaring asked.

"This my last one then I'm going home" I said spraying out the mousse on some fresh blue braids I just got finished doing.

"Damn Jae, you know I hate that cold shit on my head" Arianna said trying to dodge the mousse that was already on her head.

"You want yo' braids to be stiff or swinging?" I questioned.

Arianna went quiet.

"Okay then" I chuckled.

I turned my head towards the door as I heard the door open.

A frown formed on my face once I saw Catolina White make her way inside.

"Hey, you guys do walk ins right?" Catolina questioned.

"Yes we do" Nyaring spoke for me since I was stuck.

"Uh... am I good to go?" Arianna questioned.

"Um... yea yea" I cleared my throat and took the money from her before going and placing it in the register.

"You can follow me this way miss" I said leading Catolina to my station.

"One second" I said sanitizing the seat before I allowed her to sit down.

"What are you getting today?" I questioned as I took her hair out the bun it was in.

"A sew-in, I brought these bundles" She said raising the bundles up in the hair.

"Oh we provide hair but for a cheaper price I can use your bundles" I said.

"Oh that's fine, I'll just save my bundles for a rainy day" Catolina chuckled.

She stared at me through the mirror while I parted and braided her hair down as if she recognized me.

"Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if somebody had to help you out of a situation" Catolina asked making me look up from what I was doing.

"Uh, yea of course, all the time" I responded hesitantly.

"I remember when I use to live in Louisiana, I was a CPS worker. It was this one little girl that I wish I could've saved" Catolina closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

"CPS said there wasn't enough evidence for me to do anything. That little girl eyes told me everything I needed to know" Catolina spoke again.

"Oh..." I mumbled.

The rest of the time while I did her hair, she was silent; taking business calls here and there.

"You're all done, you can pay up front. Just follow me" I said leading her to the front desk.

"Here you are and a little extra" Catolina said as she payed me and placed a tip in the tip jar.

"I wanted to help you Kouraje, I did" Catolina said before she left, leaving me speechless.

My eyes started to tear up while I looked down at my dior slippers.
