I wake up slowly as the light comes in through my windows. My bed feels cozier than usual and more cramped, for some reason. My head is pounding as I try to remember events from yesterday. All I remember is getting there, Sara's smile, the way she walked towards me, Cécile kissing Aaron... I try to think further into the night but I can't.
I try to sit up on my bed, but as soon as I do my vision goes black from the headache I have. I stay in the same position for a few seconds until I look over and nearly jump from the sudden sight. Why is there another person in my bed?!
Don't tell me I-
Oh my god. What happened?I look at the head of hair, wondering who it is. I carefully move the hair from her face, trying to get a look at the mystery girl. Then my heart stops, then speeds up once again.
Why is Sara Garnier in my bed?! My head starts spinning with possible reasons as to why she's laying down sleeping next to me. The most logical one would be...
I get up and go downstairs, one step at a time. I'm clearly hungover. My siblings are downstairs watching TV. Well, Louis is, Emma is on her laptop, but honestly I couldn't care less right now. I go over to my mother, who's sitting at the kitchen table reading something on her phone.
I slowly approach. "Maman, were you awake last night when I got home?"
"Yes, and we're having a talk about it later, Hugo. What you did wasn't okay."
I'm screwed.
"You were really drunk last night, young man. Do you know how dangerous that can be?"
I nod. "It won't happen again, I don't know what happened to me yesterday." Sighing, I look away. "But, can you tell me, why is Sara Garnier in my bed?"
My mother chuckles. "She's the one who took you home last night, and I offered her to stay since it was too late for her to walk home alone. Her parents were okay with it since they couldn't pick her up. Her mother will be here to get her in about an hour."
"Ah, okay."
As I wait for her to wake up, I have breakfast. I haven't baked in a long time, I used to do it with maman all the time. But when my vision goes black as I reach up to get something, I know today's not the day. I'll just have a simple breakfast. I put my plates in the dishwasher afterwards and tell my siblings not to be annoying when my guest comes down. Louis asks who it is, but I pretend I don't hear him and hurry upstairs. I want to see if she's awake yet.
When I go back upstairs Sara is still sleeping soundly. She looks so peaceful, and there's still some glitter on her eyelids from last night. I go over to my guitar and tune it, waiting for her to wake up.
I tune all six strings, and by the time I'm putting my guitar back on the stand I hear some sheets ruffle.
My head immediately turns to my bed, where Sara is stretching her arms. I smile to myself at the sight of her in my favorite band shirt. I folded up her clothes from yesterday and set them neatly on my bedside table for her to see, as well as her jewelry and accessories.
"Hugo? I didn't know you played guitar."
I get distracted from my thoughts. "What? Oh, yeah, I do. How did you sleep?"
