This Isn't Easy

I sat in my living room, watching the news report with a mix of excitement and hesitation.

'Yesterday, a mysterious person appeared, claiming to be a new superhero named Cryptic Silk.' The news showed a clip of my announcement to the crowd on the streets of New York, as I swung through the streets. the past few days. 'She had already become a legend, the talk of the town, and her bravery and dedication had earned her the respect and admiration of the people. The city had found its new hero, and she was determined to make it a better place for all.'

My mother walked into the living room and sat down on the couch, her eyes set on the TV. She listened as a reporter spoke about the mysterious hero which was me. who had appeared in the city yesterday, fighting for justice and protecting the innocent.

I turned to her, a smile on my face. "Mamá, what do you think of the superhero?" I asked.

She huffed. "I don't understand why she would do this, she should leave the work to the police. It's too dangerous for someone like her to be running around, putting herself in harm's way like that."

The words pierced through me like a knife, but I stayed strong. My mother didn't know that I was the superhero she was talking about, and I planned to keep it that way. I would continue fighting for what was right, protecting the city and its people from evil, and she would never know it was me.

"I think she's brave and-" I started to say before my mother cut me off. "Athena, if I find out that you're putting yourself in danger like her, doing anything stupid, I will ground you for life!"

My eyes widened in shock at her sudden outburst, and I raised my hands in surrender. "¡Mamá, bien! Bien!" I exclaimed, eager to do anything to avoid her anger. I had never seen her so angry before, and it made me realize how lucky I was to have her as a mother. I would do everything in my power to keep her safe and happy, even if it meant keeping my secret identity as a superhero from her.

"Good girl," my mother said, putting a hand on my shoulder and kissing my cheek. "I'll go make some empanadas!" she said, getting up and walking to the kitchen. "Thank you, mamá!" I said, sitting back on the couch and watching the news, well barely. I couldn't focus on the new broadcast, my mind still reeling from the conversation I had just had with my mother. I couldn't believe she hadn't found out my secret and that she still thought I was her little girl.

I got up from the couch and retreated to my room, where I put on my suit and threw on a jacket, zipping it up so that no one could see it. I stuffed the mask into my pocket and walked towards the front door, my mother asking me where I was going. "Just going out for a bit, mom," I answered, opening the door and leaving the apartment. "Okay, your father wants you back for dinner!" she called after me as I turned towards the street. "Okay, mamá," I replied, ready to take on the world once again as my alter ego, Cryptic Silk.

As I walked down the street in my hero costume, I told myself that I needed to make nightly patrols a daily and nightly thing. It would help to improve my cardio and keep the city safe, I thought to myself, knowing that the citizens of the city will always be grateful for it. With a renewed sense of purpose, I made my way through the city streets, ready to take on the night and whatever villain may cross my path.

The moment I had been waiting for finally arrived, and I took the mask from my pocket, pulling it over my face. I took off my jacket and set it next to a building so I could get it back later, feeling a sense of excitement and purpose surge through me. I was ready to take on whatever challenges came my way, knowing that the city was counting on me to protect it. With a determined step, I walked towards the nearest dark alleyway, aware that my night as a superhero had just begun.

I was patrolling the city when I spotted a weird creature in the shadows. It looked like a twisted version of a human, with long, lanky limbs and a contorted body. Its eyes were glowing an eerie green, and it seemed to be staring right at me. I knew I had to intervene before it could harm anyone, so I approached it cautiously. When it saw me, it let out a shrill, ear-piercing scream and scuttled away into the darkness. I followed it, determined to stop it from harming anyone else, but I lost its trail. I'll continue to keep a watch out for it, and if I see it again, I'll make sure to stop it before it can cause any harm.
