The blood red doors of The Nightingale held court over a small but well-kept garden.  It was so rare to hear the rustling of leaves and smell the aroma of flowers in a city like Pledis, so focused as it was on business and industry.

A slice of light flashed through the courtyard as a young couple stumbled out of the red doors, tipsy on alcohol and life.

That must be what luxury is like, I mused.  To love life the way it loves you.

Without sparing me a glance, the two breezed by, their chatter accompanied by the clinking of jewelry and the clicking of dress shoes on cobblestone.  I caught a whiff of designer perfume tainted by top-shelf liquor.

Tonight was going to be expensive.

Wooin was nowhere to be found and wasn't answering his phone, but he'd once told me he rarely had his ringer on.  Hopefully, he was on his way.

"A reservation under Sohee for two?" asked the hostess, her neat red lipstick popping against her black uniform and the restaurant's dim lighting.  "Is the rest of your party here?"

"No," I replied.  "I'll wait for him."

The hostess nodded, a flitter of emotion breaking her professional attitude.  Was that pity on her face?  I narrowed my eyes in frustration.  Wooin had better show up if he knew what was good for him.

I slipped into a red velvet covered chair in the waiting area, listening to the tinkling of glasses and happy chattering deeper within the restaurant.  People—mainly couples and a few larger groups—constantly passed in and out of the large red doors while I checked my email, texts, and social media, then checked them again and again.

Hey!  I've arrived, where are you?

Did you forget our date?

You'll have to make it up for me when you get here.  I know I'm paying tonight, but you're going to have to at least treat me to a drink when you get here ;)

Immediately, a Read 7:26 popped up.  I breathed a sigh of relief.

"I think my date will be here soon," I told the hostess.  "Can I be seated while I wait?"

Soon I was comfortably settled at a table, bathed in fake candlelight and serenaded by very faint classical music that could barely be heard under a much louder din of talking.

I got myself the drink.  Hope you don't mind

Another five minutes passed.
