! TW: mild bullying !

"Do you see that?" My best friend, Binna, pointed to a lonely red notebook on the cafeteria table we'd just left. "I think-"
"It's Jihoon's," I finished, snatching it up as fast as possible. "Let's see what we have."
"Aera, I don't think we should be looking through Jihoon's-"
"Chill, Binna. It's just his math notes."
"Oh."
Binna, slightly mollified, and I continued to walk out of the quickly emptying cafeteria while I rifled through the pages of Jihoon's cramped handwriting.
"This is such a nice equation sheet," I remarked, an evil glint in my eye.
Binna recognized it. "Lee Aera! Don't-"
I ripped the page out of his notebook cleanly and crushed it into a ball. "What Binna? What happened? There was never an equation sheet to begin with."
"Aera, why do you have it out for that poor guy?" Binna demanded. "I know he's not the nicest person either, but do you really have to go to such lengths to annoy him?"
You would never be able to imagine. "He shouldn't have spilled his drink all over my new calculator."
"He apologized!"
I sniffed. Binna could believe things like this, but not me. "He wasn't really sorry or he wouldn't have slipped that duck sticker into my locker."
"Wait, what's the deal with ducks?"
I'd forgotten that Binna was only a half-year addition to our group. "I have a phobia of ducks. And geese. Most large birds, actually."
"Regardless, you should be the bigger person first," Binna scolded.
"Maybe after they announce who's going to be valedictorian," I retorted. "We've been competing for it since we were born."
"And you're both in the same friend group."
Thinking about that, I made a face. "I can't believe we have the same friends. I can't believe he has friends."
"Jihoon is perfectly nice to everyone except you! Why can't you stop this stupid grade war? There are bigger things than having the highest GPA, like college and careers and being human."
"Of course, Binna," I said, putting a reassuring hand on her back. "Maybe if he apologizes first. Though he probably won't, since I stole his favorite eraser."
"Lee Aera!" Binna closed her eyes in frustration, but I knew she couldn't stay mad at me for long. "How do you even know it's his favorite?"

Jihoon knew immediately that I was the one who'd stolen his equation sheet and eraser. I also figured out almost immediately that he'd put soy sauce in my soda can at a study session and retaliated by sticking another small ketchup packet in his locker. I'd been doing this ever since...well, ever since our rivalry had started. He probably had a few thousand by now.
