! TW: Threatens of rape and human trafficking, also, a short, unsuccessful kidnapping scene in a dark alley !
Remember, this oneshot consisted of fictional events. This oneshot includes a romanticization of gangs and this is unrealistic. Keep in mind that, in reality, romance is actually dangerous for both gang members and those around them.

"Sooyun! Sooyun!"
My broom paused as Mr. Choi made his way across the shop floor, his eyes bugging out with excitement.
"Stop sweeping! Put down the broom! ...I said: put it down!"
I shook my head at the floor, wondering what crazy idea Mr Choi had now. "Mr. Choi, the floor is dusty. If I don't sweep it, it won't ever get clean."
"No, no, no, that's not what I mean," Mr. Choi said, with a chuckle. "I'm promoting you. You won't have to sweep anymore."
"And who will?"
Mr. Choi's permanently surprised looking eyes looked like they were going to burst out of his head at any moment. "Someone new just applied!"
With a clatter, the broom slipped from my grasp.
As I scrambled to pick it up, I asked incredulously, "Who?"
As in, who would be crazy enough to apply to a tiny restaurant on the corner of nowhere street and nothing avenue? All our business came from the old, retired locals who gave us just enough money to feed them. In fact, all my serving, cleaning, and stock inventory time were for community service hours because there wasn't enough left over money to pay me (but I did get free meals occasionally).
"His name is Lee Chan," Mr. Choi said. "He's even your age!"
As much as I hated to bring down Mr. Choi's excitement, I had to be realistic. "Mr. Choi, did you, by any chance, tell him that he won't be getting paid?"'
"... Oh." Mr. Choi's smile drooped. The lines on his face emphasized his sadness, like the wrinkles on a punctured balloon. "Well, he's coming at 10:00 today for training. Could you tell him about how the shop works when he gets here?"
"Sure," I said. "I'll tell him everything, so don't worry about it at all."
"Thanks, Sooyun." Mr. Choi disappeared out the back door to tend to the groceries.
Typical. Mr. Choi, naive and easily satisfied, tended to keep his head in the clouds and ignore all his problems. I, ever a people-pleaser, would have to deal with all of them; as well as this new employee. This Chan guy probably wouldn't even stay much longer than a few days.
Just as I was finishing sweeping behind the counter, chimes filled the air from the hanging wind chime that hung on the front door. A vague figure stood past the small window, rattling the door knob. Locals never came this early, so our door tended to be locked before 11:00. This was someone unfamiliar.
