As Nalani, Neteyam, and Frankie entered the house, their eyes widened at the sight of their siblings and Kevin and Veronica gathered in the living room. Fiona turned her gaze towards Nalani, Neteyam, and Frankie, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Where have you three been?" Fiona's voice held a tinge of annoyance. "We were worried sick. You're supposed to be responsible. Don't you know what time it is?"
Nalani glanced at her siblings, exchanging nervous glances. Neteyam, feeling protective over Fiona, felt a tinge of suspicion towards Steve, sensing his interest in their sister. He decided to intervene before Fiona got more upset.
"Sorry, Fiona. We got caught up with something important. We were actually at a school event," Neteyam lied, his voice steady but his eyes avoiding Fiona's gaze.
Frankie nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we didn't realize how late it was. We lost track of time. We're really sorry." Fiona's frustration softened a bit, but a hint of disappointment lingered in her eyes. "You need to be more responsible, especially Nalani. You're the oldest. You should know better."
Nalani lowered her head, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry, Fiona. It won't happen again. We'll be more mindful next time." While Fiona continued to express her concern, Neteyam couldn't help but cast a suspicious glance towards Steve.
He noticed the way Steve looked at Fiona, and it didn't sit well with him. Neteyam decided to keep a close eye on the man, determined to protect his sister from any potential harm.
Kevin chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, Steve, you've become quite the hero tonight. We owe you one." Steve grinned, but his eyes still wandered towards Fiona.
"Oh, it was nothing. Just doing what any decent person would do. I'm just glad I could help." Neteyam's protective instincts heightened, his distrust towards Steve growing stronger. He vowed to keep an eye on the man, determined to ensure Fiona's safety.
Nalani walked over to where 2-year-old Liam was playing, picking him up gently and cradling him against her shoulder. Liam's head rested against Nalani's shoulder as Liam's small hand clung to Nalani's shirt, feeling comforted by her presence.
Liam's small hand clung to Nalani's shirt, finding solace in her embrace.
Frankie, always perceptive, noticed the sadness in Ian's eyes as he sat on the steps. She moved closer and took a seat beside him, offering a sympathetic smile. Sensing something was wrong, Frankie leaned in and softly asked, "Hey, Ian, what's going on?"
Ian hesitated, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's Lip... he found out I'm gay." Ian's voice quivered with vulnerability, as if he feared the consequences of his brother's reaction.
Frankie's heart went out to him, her own eyes filled with empathy. She reached out and placed a reassuring hand on his and then got from there spot and walked up the steps heading to the boys room. "Ian, you know our family loves you, no matter what, right? Lip might need some time to process it, but I'm sure deep down he loves you just the same." She sat next to him on his bed.
Ian nodded, a mix of relief and worry crossing his face. "Yeah, I hope so. I just... I don't want things to change between us. Lip's always been there for me, and I don't want to lose that."
Frankie squeezed Ian's arm gently, offering support. "I understand your fears, Ian. But remember, true family sticks together. Maybe it's time to have an open and honest conversation with Lip. Let him know how much you need his support and love right now."
Ian's eyes brightened with a glimmer of hope. "You're right, Frankie. I should talk to him. Thank you for being here for me." Frankie smiled, a mix of sisterly love and admiration in her eyes.
