Seven years ago [Melbourne, Australia]

When I awoke this morning, it was biting cold that I thought I had slept in a freezer. Days have been so warm lately that I forgot we're still technically in winter. We didn't even turn the heater on last night because it was warm, and that turned out to be a bad idea because our room became bloody South Pole overnight.

With my thick comforter hugging my shivering body, I padded my way to turn the heater on before walking up to the window to open the curtains. For a moment, I watched as the sun timidly rose on the horizon, turning the night sky into hues of pink, orange, and gold.

Considering how cold it was, I decided to skip my usual morning run and take a refreshing, hot shower instead.

The chilly morning makes me want to spend the rest of my snuggling up under the warmth of my covers, but today's Thursday, and that means I'll have to attend my Agriculture Systems Biology class that, by the way, I dread so much because of my overly strict professor.

Honestly, I really think he's just making our lives intentionally difficult. Such a bloody jackass.

I threw in a navy blue university hoodie over my shirt and a pair of comfortable grey sweatpants. I add a grey beanie, tucking my hair in, and a puffy black jacket. I'm not really in the mood to doll up and dress all girly-girly. It's bloody freezing.

Glancing at the mirror, I shook my head with a soft smile at the sight of Kirstin still nestled all snugly in her corner of the dorm room.

"Oi! Oi! Wake up! Bloody Kirstin, wake up!" I called out, tugging her blanket off of her. She pulled it back up, proceeding to whine like a five-year-old.

"Five more minutes, Mum," she mumbled.

"C'mon, I need my wingwoman." I tugged her blanket again, urging the blonde to wake up, only for her to hide herself deeper under the covers.

"Kirstin!"

I smacked her on the butt and dashed for the door when she grumpily sat up and threw a pillow at me. I dodged it and stuck out my tongue.

"For bloody sake, old Nan!"

I laughed and shuffled out of the room, into the hallway. "I'll tell Aunt Cher you said hi!" I shut the door, muffling Kirstin's cursing and ranting for waking her up so early.

I could barely contain my excitement as I walked down the stairs and out of the dormitory, the cold breeze greeting me. The addition of a puffer jacket over was definitely a good choice.

One thing I really appreciate as a university student is that people don't really care much about fashion. You may be wearing something quite comfy, such as jogging pants and a sweatshirt, and still be allowed to attend classes. Well, except for inappropriate sleepwear, obviously.

Kirstin's coffee shop is just walking distance from the dormitory and the campus grounds. Normally, the trip would take me about fifteen minutes, but because I was practically speed walking, almost jogging, I arrived at the coffee shop at ten. I wasn't overly excited.

Pausing a few stores away, I took a moment to catch my breath and make sure I didn't look like I rushed my way here. After that, I resumed walking leisurely as if I were simply going for a casual stroll on this beautiful morning.

And there she is, my beautiful stranger, sipping her steaming coffee with a book in her hand. It always irks me when someone takes my favorite seat before I do, but Frans sitting comfortably on the booth couch doesn't bother me in the least. I smiled as I approached the green door.
