"...This is a real emergency", Felix stated, hand on his head.
"That's why I called you", Vernon said.
Vernon was going to confess to his crush of 1 year, Hong Joshua. He asked Felix to pick his outfit.
Felix looked through Vernon's closet and handed him a white shirt, black jeans and brown leather jacket.
"Wear this", he said, and promptly left.
Vernon got dressed and ran his fingers through his newly dyed black hair. He grabbed his keys, wallet and phone, and made his way out the university campus.
VERNON POV
*ring* *ring* my phone rang as I called Jihoon. A few rings later, the short devil picked up.
"Hyung, do you have Shua?" I asked.
"Mmm...we're on the way right now", Jihoon responded lethargically.
"Okay", I ended the call.
Ahh....I'm so nervous...what if he says no?
No, Vernon, think positive!!
I checked the time and saw I had just 20 minutes left. I zipped through the streets of Seoul on my motorcycle until I arrived at my house.
The treehouse was still in top condition. Unlocking the main gate, I raced inside to greet my mom.
"Mom, I'm home!", I yelled.
My mom poked her head out of the living room.
"Vernon! How are you??", she asked, hugging me tightly.
"I'm good, Mom. And you?"
She pulled away and cupped my face.
"I'm good, too...but I miss you so much!" she smiled.
"I miss you too. How's Sofia?"
"Your sister's doing well. She's out with her friends now."
"Ahh...I kinda hoped she'd be home..", I said, slightly disappointed.
"Your friends Lee Felix and Jeonghan dropped by earlier to...decorate the tree house?", my mom questioned.
"Y-Yeah..uh...haha...Mom, I'm going to..c-confess to Joshua today...", I stuttered, blushing wildly.
My mom gasped.
"Good luck!! I won't disturb you kids at all, then!" she said happily.
I went out the back door into our yard and climbed up to the tree house.
Mine and Shua's dads had built this when Shua had first moved here from LA and was feeling homesick. We used to play here all the time and practically lived here on weekends. It's so spacious that even now we fit comfortably.
Lee Felix and Jeonghan hyung had done an awesome job. There were orange and rosy Edison bulbs and a huge blanket along with a picnic basket. It was perfect.
In one corner, there was a laptop and sound system. I turned it on and opened Spotify.
Hah...my fingers were shaking.
Stop shaking, stop shaking...stop shaking.
Suddenly, I heard a wooden knock, making me jump.
"Vernon. It's just me", Joshua's clear voice rang out.
"Ah...you startled me", I shuddered.
Joshua climbed in and sat next to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"This place is decorated pretty, anything special?", Joshua asked.
"No, just felt like something different", I responded, trying my best not to sound nervous.
"Ooh, is that food?", Shua asked in glee, dragging the picnic basket into his lap.
"Mhm. Tuna sandwiches, orange juice, chips, pears and brownies"
"Yummyyyyy~"
A moment of silence passed.
"Vernon, I'm hungry, can we please eat now?"
"Sure", I laughed lightly.
Before I could even blink, Shua had the entire table set, and had even finished his Christian prayers.
My face turned to one of disbelief.
"Shua if only you could do anything else that fast", I gasped.
"Eat", Joshua said shortly, stuffing his face with tuna.
"Whatever happened to being a 'gentleman'?", I laughed, making air quotes.
"Food is more important now"
Soon, I was eating too, the noises of chewing and songs playing being the only sounds in my treehouse.
After lunch, Joshua and I just talked about random things like always.
The whole time, I was bracing myself for the confession.
"S-Shua?" I asked, plans sweating and heart thumping.
"Hm?"
I scooted over to the laptop and opened a file titled 'Pretty U'.
I pressed 'play', and an upbeat song started.
"Oh hey, this is super good. Did Jihoon hyung make this?", Joshua asked, tapping to the beat.
"Hyung and I", I answered, trying to keep my voice steady.
When the chorus section came, the voices stopped, leaving only a backing track. Closing my eyes, I licked my lips and cleared my throat.
"I promise myself, while drinking
A glass of water in the morning, to tell you
I will confess what has been
On the tip of my tongue tomorrow
You are pretty"
I sang in my best falsetto, returning to bass for 'you're pretty'.
There, the music ended. Before Shua could open his mouth, I took his hand in mine.
I looked into his confused doe eyes for a moment.
"Shua that song was for you. I mean, the lyrics. I...I like you, Josh.", I said, trying desperately not to cry.
Shua stared at me for a moment.
Just when I was about to dig a hole and die, Shua responded.
"I-I like you too", he blushed furiously.
"May I kiss you?", I asked sweetly, knowing Joshua's need for consent.
"Yes...", he breathed.
Leaning in slowly with closed eyes, I met his strawberry lip balm-flavored lips in a loving kiss.
"Are we boyfriends now?", Josh asked, pulling away.
"Yes", I said decisively.
