It's been almost two days since Wanda and I arrived at our new safehouse in Vermont that was kindly provided by Clint. It's a small cabin in the deep woods that's about twenty minutes away from a small town. No neighbors or anything. Totally off the grid. We have been on the edge just trying to make sure that none of the people following us will be able to find out that we're here. So far, we're in the clear. The cabin have surveillance cameras that took me a while to get them working again as well as some sensors that's twenty feet away from us, covering the perimeter just so we know if someone would be lurking.

We've been so busy trying to make sure that everything is all set before I even realized that the cabin feels so homey. Cozy, even. If you ignore the security gadgets and weapons scattered in the kitchen, living room and bedroom closet. It feels like a family could live here even if there's only one bedroom.

That's because it probably is. This is Clint's safehouse for his family if something goes wrong.

Wanda is in the kitchen making dinner while I just finished doing a test run for the outdoor sensors. Thankfully, we were able to buy food supplies without anyone noticing. A hoodie and a pair of dark massive shades still can really be helpful to stay hidden every now and then. I got in the cabin, shivering and rubbing my dry hands together because it's really cold out. I went straight to the fireplace to start one because I can barely feel my fingers. One could go missing and I wouldn't have felt it.

"Dinner is just about ready." Wanda said, approaching me by the fireplace.

"Yep. Just a sec, j-just need to get a fire going. It's cold as a mother in this freaking c-cabin." I said, my teeth still chattering.

"Here. Move. Let me help you with that. Your hands are shaking." she says, covering me with a thick wool blanket and leading me to the only couch in the small living space.

"T-thanks."

"Sure. I'm sorry I couldn't help much with whatever you have to set up for the cabin though. That's just not my department." she smiles while stacking up some logs.

"Don't worry about it. Besides, I want it to be thorough. The only way to make sure of that is if I do it alone."

We ate dinner and then Wanda cleared our plates. Instant mashed potatoes and frozen meatballs couldn't get any worse in this place. But I am not complaining at all in any way. How can I complain after everything that happened? From the day everyone in my universe was disseminated to me staring straight at a headstone with my name on it. Nothing's wrong with instant mashed potatoes and frozen meatballs. They're great.

I settled in the living room staring at the TV that only shows live footage outside the cabin. There weren't much to do for entertainment since there's only like five DVDs with movies I am not interested in and some books with titles I have never even heard of. Are movies and books different in each universe?

"Are you just going to sit here watching live surveillance footage of the cabin while wrapped in a blanket?" Wanda asks as she offered me a cup of hot chocolate.

"Hey, it's good entertainment." I joked, taking the mug from her. Steam still coming out from the top. "Thanks."

"Mhm." she just nods. I can see her thoughts lingering elsewhere.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Are you the mind reader now?" she chuckles.

"Not quite."

"I tried using my powers today." she finally said, her tone sounding more serious.

"And?"

"Nothing happened. I am so confused. I don't understand how this is possible."
