Chapter 25 – THE REJECTED

LUKE HAD no idea on how to feel about Mateo's situation right now as he watched the rejected man sit in the hospital waiting chair, outside of Mia's room, sulking over a very painful and comical (for him) marriage proposal rejection ever.

Minutes after Mia gave birth, a few minutes after Mateo got rejected, the crazy storm stopped and fortunately, the ambulance Mateo called earlier came afterwards.

Even with a pained heart, Mateo still carefully carried Mia towards the ambulance while Luke carried one of the twins and a nurse carried the other on the way to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, nurses immediately assisted Mateo and brought Mia to a comfortable room and the other nurses guided Luke and the other nurse holding the baby to the nursery room.

After taking the babies in the nursery and making sure they're fine, he went to Mia's room and that's where he saw Mateo sulking that he looks like he was about to cry at the moment, his elbows resting on top of the backrest of the empty chairs beside him while his head faced the ceiling.

"How's Mia?" He asked when he approached the dreadful Mateo.

Not moving an inch, he answered, "Inside, she's sleeping right now, probably really tired after all that."

"You're not gonna change?" He thought he would ask because his white long-sleeve blouse is being covered with blood, right on his torso.

Still not moving, "I will, later. I asked my mom for a change of clothes. She'll be coming over here in a while. I'll wait until she arrives." His voice sounded monotonously.

"Ohhhkay..." was the only thing Luke could respond as he had no idea on whether to pry with Mateo's internal turmoil right now.

Although he wanted to make fun of him since earlier, but he does have a heart...so maybe he'll do it later.

After a while, Aunt Luciana came along with some other people he doesn't know, except for Mr. Dela Cruz.

"Luke dear..." She greeted him with a hug after giving Mateo his change of clothes. "What happened to Mateo?"

"Oh him? He was just rejected...by Mia... Didn't you hear from the phone?" Surely, the call during that time wasn't ended.

"Uh, no. I was away from the phone. We were busy paying Tsukishima for his winnings on the bet that we had."

"Oh... okay. Then I'll fill you in with the details. Mateo's marriage proposal got rejected by Mia."

"Ohhh..." Aunt Luciana nodded finally understanding everything. "I think I understand Mia's decision, but did she explain to him why?"

"Well..."

*Flashback*

Luke couldn't help but stand there and laugh at Mateo's expression after his marriage proposal was rejected by Mia. But what made him burst into laughing was Mateo crying afterwards.

"Why Mia?" Mateo asked in a desperate tone. "It's because of all the things I did to you before. I hurt you... Yeah, I did..." Luke was shocked when Mateo started sobbing like a kid and tears started to fall from his eyes across his cheeks. He can't believe it, the great Mateo Dela Cruz, crying over something like this. "I understand." He sobbed while still holding the baby in his arms.

Mateo slowly lowered his head, probably hiding his face and the fact that he is crying like a little kid from Mia. But Mia, with one hand, carefully lifted Mateo's face making her see crying his face.
