CHAPTER 34 – THE LOVE
Then the rink glowed and glowing words formed, like it was written to glow in the dark.
It turns out that when Mateo was doing his weird dance earlier, he was actually writing on the ice. The letters where all scribbles and seems like written by a five year old, but then, the message of the words are clear to her.
"I know that you might still say no after this. But I don't care how many times I do this or how many times I fail. I will still continue proposing until you say yes, Mia. Because I can never think of marrying any other woman, except you, sweetie." He pleaded wholeheartedly.
"Ms. Mia Gutierez, future Mrs. Mia Gutierez Dela Cruz... Will you marry me?" He said, repeating the words he wrote on the ice.
Mia could not contain all of her emotions anymore and ran to him and wrote her answer on the ice in a short dance. The ribbons on both her arms and the lightness of her dress flowed and synchronized with her dance.
The letters she wrote glowed under his own writings and Mia made Mateo read it.
Mateo's eyes glowed and looked into hers for confirmation. She nodded and muttered the words he has been longing to hear.
"Yes Mateo, I will marry you...boss." She smiled to him.
And Mateo gave her an earth shattering kiss on her lips as he held her face with both of his hands and wears the ring in her finger.
Then he shouted, "She said yes everybody!"
All of a sudden, the lights went on and everyone was there. Mateo's family members, butlers and maids, her family, the twins, Luke, Viane, Sydney, as well as the nuns who took care of her in the orphanage. They were all standing in the benches overlooking at both of them, cheering them on.
Happiness bursts into her entire being upon seeing all her beloved ones and seeing all those who supported her through her life.
Tears were starting to form into her eyes as she looks back to Mateo who was also looking at her, with love visible in his eyes.
"Are you ready?" Mateo asks her all of a sudden.
She blinked, confused. "Ready for what?"
"Our wedding." Mateo answered her with a seemingly nervous grin.
"What?" Mia asked in utmost confusion.
"When I said that I will never let anyone take you away from me...this is how I mean it."
Then all of a sudden, a mechanical grumble was emerging from below the rink and a rectangular sliding door appeared on the rink. The doors slides open and a decorated stage slowly rise from the open doors, in front of them.
It was a big stage that took up almost all of the space of the ice rink. There is a beautifully decorated arch shaped into a heart filled with alternate pink roses, peach Ranunculi, and white Dahlias. The same petals of the same flower patterns where scattered on the floor of the stage making it a bed of petals.
Now that she has that, she had now also noticed the same pattern of flowers decorated all over the benches of the rink.
And that their single guests are wearing pink and peach matching skaters dresses. But the married adults are wearing pink silk long gowns and black matching suits.
"You prepared all of these?" Mia gestured the entire venue. "When?"
"Well, it was already months. And I also did not do everything alone. All of them helped me in preparing all of this."
"Really boss, engagement and wedding on the same day?" She said in an unconvinced tone.
"Yeah..." He said as he scratched the back of his neck. "I was too afraid that you'll change your mind even after you said yes." Then he laughed awkwardly.
"That was a bold move, Sir. What if I said no? Then all of your efforts will be wasted."
His wisecracking expression changed into a serious one. "Then I'll do it all over again. I don't care how many times I have to do this just to make you say yes." He said and held her hands in both of his hands and kissed them. "That's how much I love, want and need you, Mia..."
Mia could not stop it anymore. Tears raced down to her cheeks because of the mixed emotions in her heart.
Mateo wiped them off with his thumbs and led her up the stage.
Then a priest came walking towards the stage to start the matrimony that will be the start of their new live, together...
"MATEO DELA CRUZ, Do you promise to love and cherish Mia, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for better or for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her, for so long as you both shall live?"
Mateo looked into her eyes lovingly before saying, "I do."
"Mia Gutierez, do you promise to love and cherish him, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for better for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto him, for so long as you both shall live?"
"I do." Mia said, full of sincerity and love.
"Now, for the wedding vows..." The priest said.
Mia hadn't prepared any vow because she had no idea that she is going to be wed. She'll probably need to do impromptu. But Mateo seemed prepared and stated his vow to her, wholeheartedly.
"Mia, my sweetie... I know we had a bit of a rough start as employer-employee. I was a huge pain the neck boss. A bipolar...which you handled well. You were always there for me whenever I needed you. Even during your day-offs, I would always bug you off and coerce you in coming to my house. But no matter how I was, you did not complain and would always grant whatever my wish. I thought that we would always stay that way, me as your boss and you as my secretary. I thought that I always want you by my side because I needed my secretary. But it turns out that it was more than that. It turns out that I needed your presence in my life. Your presence calms me, energizes me and helps me supress my emotions."
To Mia's surprise, tears are starting to fall down Mateo's eyes. But he still continued his vow.
"So I'm begging you Mia...don't ever leave my side ever again because it was a pure torture not having you in my life." He said and holds her hands even tighter, but not in a painful way.
Mia smiles at him and kissed his hands this time. "Then, since I did not prepare any vows for today, I only have promise to you, Sir Mateo. And that is to accept your request. I will never ever leave... no matter what life brings us."
Mateo grinned and wiped his wet eyes.
"Father, the kiss..." Mateo said in a hurry.
The priest chuckled. "Alright...by the power invested in me God and man... I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." He finally said.
Then Mia saw Mateo grinned from ear to ear and gave her a passionate and fervent kiss on her lips to officiate their hearts joining together. Mia kissed Mateo back with the same intensity and cheers echoed in the whole rink.
They faced their families and friends who were screaming and crying to the occasion.
"Thank you, Mia. Ti amerò sempre." Mateo said and kissed her on her forehead.
"Thank you too, Sir Mateo...siempre te querré."
Mia felt like the luckiest woman alive.
She can't believe that her dream would come true and her prayer to God that Mateo will be his someday will be answered.
Everything feels surreal.
But she knows that this is real.
Being Mateo, her boss's official wife.
Because it has always been told, "Anything is possible, if you just believe and not lose hope."
Well, she almost did, but nevertheless, hope still found her.
