Dean guided Castiel into his apartment and closed the door behind him.
He still couldn't believe it at all, that Cas, his best friend, who he missed, mourned and grieved, who ripped his heart out and shattered him into a million pieces, stood inside his apartment. Nothing compared to the way his chest felt too full from all the warmth inside him, his blood rushing way too fast through his body. He could feel the excitement and ease striking through his body like a wave.
He couldn't help but stare at him, while he wandered around and mustered everything with an awe. That made his heart felt heavy and light at the same time. He wished for this every single day since the day he moved in. He pictured hanging out with Cas in here all the time, how they'd watch movies, drank a beer together, simply hang out with each other like they used to.
He consumed every corner of this place, glancing over every small detail, just basically scanning the room. When his gaze stopped at the bay window, he walked up to it, and stood still. The last sunbeams flooded the room and bathed Cas in orange. He really did look angelic. With a shake of his head, he went ahead and went to the bedroom to get Miracle.
A few seconds later she ran straight into the living room and jumped on to Sams lap, who was sitting on the couch waiting for her, because he didn't want to leave without giving her a few hugs.
"Cas, this is Miracle. Miracle, this is Cas," Dean said with the biggest grin he has had for a long time.
Cas' face switched from a disbelieving shock to the most heartwarming smile he has probably ever seen in his life. Deans stomach tingled and his skin felt immediately warmer. This was unbelievable. The sensation of Cas getting down on his knees to pet Miracle and Miracle freaking out of joy, jumping up and down on Cas, was something he could have only dreamed about happening. He just stared at them and smiled and wanted to cherish this moment forever.
He went back through the French doors, picked up his camera from the shelf and snapped a picture of them.
Claire got him back into it. She said it would help to cling onto the positive things in life, to be able to look at the things that made you happy every time you might need it. And Dean always used to look at family pictures he collected and kept hidden whenever he felt down. He was inspired of taking pictures himself again -he started when Sammy went to college but quickly stopped when they had to find John- when Cas wore that cowboy outfit for him and looked so ador- badass that he couldn't help but capture it.
He didn't really have the opportunity to take a lot of pictures after Cas died, because there weren't a lot of moments he wanted to remember. But when the hunters started gathering in the bunker again and Sam couldn't be more satisfied with that also bringing Eileen back, he needed to take pictures of them. Jody posed a lot with her girls and Donna always found a way to make a picture hilarious.
But nothing topped the joy he captured right now. It was just... everything. And he could definitely hold on to this memory. Getting Cas back was the biggest fucking win he could get.
Cas didn't even notice being photographed... or he didn't care. He placed the camera back and studied Cas' every movement. His bright smile, that showed his perfectly straight teeth, that made the skin around his eyes wrinkle and his nose scrunch. The way his tie was totally unsymmetrical and terribly tied up, his trenchcoat a little too big spreading around him on the ground. His dark hair perfectly falling without an ounce of hair gel. He looked like perfection to Dean, platonically.
Not, that this feeling inside him while looking at Cas was a concern. He always felt like that when he looked at him, nothing changed when Cas told him he loved him. They were still them. Perfectly normal best friends. Because that's what it feels like to have a best friend, that's how you know they are your best friend. Your insides jumping around, your skin burning up when your skins touch, this tingling in every cell of your body when you catch their gaze.
