Chapter 15: A Change Of Heart/The Endgame

Voldemort follows in pursuit. Ame and Newt were nowhere to be found. Harry was gone as well as professors Slughorn and McGonagall. Where were they? Did they leave you in that hall with Voldemort? Did they get help? You arrive back outside the school where Grindelwald was lying.

"Where did they go, Grindelwald?"

"You're really asking me that while I'm petrified?"

"I didn't petrify your head for a reason. Now where did they go?"

Voldemort arrives.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!!"

"FINITE!"

"I WILL BURY YOU UNDER THE GROUND, BOY!"

"WHERE DID THEY GO, TOM? WHERE IS EVERYONE?"

"FORGET EVERYONE ELSE! IT'S JUST US NOW! YOUR FATHER WILL BE WATCHING ME END YOU, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!!!"

"EXPELLIARMUS!"

Voldemort counters.

"AVADA KEDAVRA! AVADA KEDAVRA! AVADA KEDAVRA!"

He relentlessly shoots at you. Spell after spell, he doesn't stop. You have no more choice but to block and deflect.

Unpetrify Grindelwald. A familiar voice says in your head.

Mom? You ask yourself.

Unpetrify your father. The voice drops to a whisper.

You look at Grindelwald. You could never forgive him for what he's done. But your mother herself is telling you to set him free.

He'll kill me, mom! You think.

Would your mom ever put you in harm's way? The voice says.

You look back at Grindelwald, then at Voldemort.

You consider what your mom says. She's never put you in any path of danger.

"What are you looking at?" Grindelwald says.

Ready? The voice asks.

You take a deep breath. You nod.

Wait for my signal. The voice says, more clearer and sounds more like your mom.

You and Voldemort battle it out as you wait. You occasionally glance at Grindelwald, thinking that this is your father who murdered your mom. Despite that, your mom says to forgive him. It's been years since that incident so maybe it's about time you actually forgive him.

Now! Your mom's voice rings in your ears as if she's there beside you.

Your face turns serious as you deflect the spell and leap out of the way.

"Finite!" you cast on Grindelwald.

Grindelwald was confused about what you did and stands up, his wand down.

"STUPID IDIOT! YOU JUST UNPETRIFIED MY RIGHT HAND MAN! HAHAHA! GRINDELWALD, ATTACK HIM!"

Grindelwald stands there frozen, unsure of what just happened, but he raises his wand and attacks. He attacks, not you, but Voldemort, who gets disarmed.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING GRINDELWALD?!?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???" Voldemort says, clearly enraged at what he did.

"Bombarda." he whispers.

*BLAM*

Voldemort gets flung back. You look at Grindelwald's face and see a look of determination. Determination to bring this Dark Lord down. Determination to fix this broken family. Determination to be free of guilt and burden. Determination to be your father again. He looks back at you.

"Father?" you ask.

He says nothing. Just tears filling up in his eyes. Then you see it. Your mom beside him, hugging him, whispering to him. She was floating, leaning on his shoulder. His eyes avert back to Voldemort who was standing back up after the blow Grindelwald gave him.

Do it. For us, Grindelwald. For your son. For your wife. For the good of everything. You hear your mom tell him.

He nods and starts rapidly shooting spells, no stops in between, no incantations, no breaking of eye contact. Every spell hits Voldemort knocking him back into piles of wood and stone.

"YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS, GRINDELWALD!!! AVADA KEDAVRA!!"

"EXPELLIARMUS!" you say the incantation, hitting his spell.

*CLASH*

The wind from the impact blows Voldemort's robe back and you feel the power growing.

Come here, son. Stay by your father. Your mom says.

You walk to him.

"I forgive you, Grindelwald. As a Death Eater and a father who left me." you say.

Grindelwald looks at you, on the verge of crying.

Then he looks at your mom.

Take care of our son, Grindelwald. I'll always love you two. I'm always here for you. We'll see each other again someday. She hugs both of you and disappears.

He looks at you again and a tear rolls down his cheek.

"For mom." you say.

"For your mother." he agrees.

He lifts his wand and aims at Voldemort.

"Expelliarmus." he casts and hits the spell.

Together you push Voldemort back.

"NO! DAMN YOU, GRINDELWALD! DAMN YOU, CHILD! THIS SCHOOL IS SUPPOSED TO BE MINE! IF I'M NOT GETTING THIS SCHOOL, I'M TAKING YOU DOWN WITH ME!"

The spell's midpoint starts moving towards Voldemort. The ground starts shaking, rocks start floating, the air starts crackling.

"NO!!!" Voldemort says as the spells hit him, his skin cracking and getting blown away.

You watch as Voldemort disappears from existence.

"Thank you, father."

"I'm sorry, son."

He hugs you and everyone arrives on the scene, Voldemort completely disappearing in front of their eyes.

"It's finally over. It's finally over!"

Everyone cheers and celebrates.

Paul and Ame runs up to you, hugging you.

"Where were you? Me and Newt were looking for you in the hallway!" Ame says.

"What's he still doing here?" Paul asks.

"Paul, Ame, meet my father."
