Start a Fire by Passenger

Did that just happen?

Did I almost get killed by a walker? Oh jeez, I need to catch my breath. The bright side of all this is that I got some food and that's all that matters. I can hear the walker pounding on the door, trying to get out.

Those walkers looked and smelled at least two weeks old. Here's what I think happened: A few people tried to hole up at the gas station, but walkers broke in and killed them.

The end.

That would probably explain the busted lock. I pick up my hammer from the grass and walk away from the gas station towards the road. I never want to do that again.

I take a look at my flashlight, seeing a big crack on the lens. Damn, it must have broke when I fell. I look up at the cloudy sky, getting a glance at the sun as it slowly dips downward towards the horizon. I don't even know what time it is but from the looks of it, it's almost sundown. I spot a nice pickup truck near the edge of the road up ahead and I head toward it.

Surprisingly, the door to the truck is unlocked. I lay my hammer on the passenger seat. Now, I think it's a good time to check my inventory. I unzip my heavy backpack and lay out everything I have. Here's what I got food-wise: four small bags of chips, three chocolate bars, two unopened bottles of water, a two-pack of peanut butter cups, and a bottle of Gatorade.

I pull out a bag filled with my toiletries and unzip it: a roll of toilet paper, ibuprofen, hydrogen peroxide, toothpaste, and my toothbrush. If I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die with clean teeth.

Other than all of that, I have some personal belongings: a rabbit's foot for luck, a compass, a map of Pennsylvania, and...a photo of me and my brother.

His name is Anthony. He is, or was, twelve-years old. Two years younger than me. The last time I saw him, he was on the other side of a huge swarm of walkers. Anthony was with a few other people, and I was by myself. He screamed my name, and I screamed his. I didn't know what to do, so I ran. I ran as fast as I could like a coward. The next thing I knew I was hiding in a car, crying my eyes out and shaking. I was crying because I didn't know if I would ever see Anthony again.

All that happened four months ago. Now, I'm heading North up the river. In that direction I'll find Philadelphia. I heard that there's a safe zone in the city with food, shelter, and protection. Woodford is three miles away, and Philadelphia is twelve miles away from Woodford.

Philadelphia is where I'll find the safe zone.

And that's where I'll find Anthony.
