Mon wasn't panicked when she walked into the office and maybe she should've been. Her fellow Diversity employees looked like zombies. A small part of her regrets only bringing coffee for herself and Sam.
She wasn't exactly sure what was going on. Sam had sent her home for the past two days. During those two days, Sam had checked on Mon hourly and would should up at Mon's house for lunch.
Mon wasn't sick. She was just panicking and unaware of how to exist around Sam.
And honestly, with Lady Sam being that nice it didn't help the pit that grew in her stomach.
She has to tell Sam.
Just not today.
"What's going on?" Mon asks.
"Someone stole one of our ideas," Noi explained.
Noi, Yah and Chin crowded around Mon's desk as she sat down.
"The Lady Boss is ready to cut one of our heads off and mount it above her office door." Chin cried out in a panic. "She's making us do confessionals!"
"How did someone steal our ideas?" Mon asks.
"The meeting." Noi explained. "Someone there must've leaked it."
Oh.
Mon is in the clear then. She was at home.
Sam opens the door to her office. She looks rather displeased. Mon looks down at her soulmate mark and isn't shocked to find that Sam is angry.
"Mon." Sam calls.
What.
Mon gulps nervously.
Normally even if she was rather mad, Sam was always at least civil with Mon but some part of her felt like that wouldn't be the case today.
"Lady Sam?" She questions. "I got you a coffee."
She hands Sam the coffee as soon as the door to the office closes. "Is this to sweeten me up because you leaked the information to Nita?"
"Who?"
Sam blinks. "You don't know who Nita is?"
"Should I?"
"No," Sam grumbles. She sits on the edge of her desk and sips the coffee. "I'm going to murder who ever did leak it."
"You'll go to jail," Mon says. "And then Mr. Kirk will be in charge of Diversity."
"I can't have him ruining my company," Sam sighs. "Fine. I'll find something else to do besides murder."
There's a comfortable silence as the pair stand in Sam's office, their eyes locked. For a moment, Mon swears that she sees a smile crack on the CEO's lips.
"I can't work here," Sam says. "Not when there's a traitor." She pauses for a minute. "We'll work at my house. You can just spend the night there."
Some part of Mon's brain to screaming at her to say no.
"Okay."
That's how Mon ended up at Sam's house. She was mystified, it was like three times the size of her apartment. The color scheme was what Mon expected, it was grays and whites with a splash of black here and there.
The most colorful thing in Sam's life seemed to be her car. And her soulmate mark but Sam kept that covered most of the time.
In fact Mon's not sure if Sam has worn short-sleeves since the first time she came over to her apartment.
Does Sam know?
Is she just waiting for Mon to say something?
