Darian- The Inquiring
"So, what did you and Michael find?"
That morning, the three of us decided to regroup in our office, to share the information we all gathered."We didn't find out much about Rehan's condition specifically." Leroy said, answering my question. "We talked to the manager, Jeffery Baker, and he said that Dr. Collins took Rehan's file home."
"Dr. Collins wasn't there?" I asked. Leroy and Michael looked at each other, nervously.
"Dr. Collins has been missing for three months." Michael said. "We called the NYPD, who were handling her case, but apparently the police have no leads."
"You think it has something to do with Rehan, don't you?" I asked, and Michael nodded.
"The last time Mr. Baker saw Dr. Collins, she appeared nervous and 'stole' a file. Do you think it was Rehan's file?" Leroy asked Michael.
"Possibly." He answered. He found the psychiatric report on the table, and showed Leroy and I something. "We have her address." Michael said. "But, we need to get a warrant if we want to search it."
"I can do that." I said.
"What did you find at the apartment, Darian?" Leroy asked. I showed the two the box that I had found.
"I found this underneath the floor in the Mansoor's flat." I said. I kept explaining, as Michael and Leroy looked through the contents of the box. "The files were definitely taken from the FBI, probably by Kashan Mansoor. The files only contain generic information about a big drug case that the FBI solved a few years ago. I also decided to take a look at the flower shop, where I found this:"
I showed the two the glove I found, now safe inside a plastic bag.
"Was there only one glove?" Leroy asked."Unfortunately." I said. "There wasn't anything else of importance at the crime scene. I did find that the cameras were destroyed, possibly deliberately, but I believe that was also in FBI's files."
"We should get this tested." Michael said. "Perhaps there's some DNA."
"That I can do." Leroy said.
The two keep looking through the files. I studied Michael, but he showed no emotion expect for curiosity, the same as Leroy. Was he really not going to tell us?
"Your name was in the file." I suddenly said. Both he and Leroy looked up. "It said you were one of the lead investigators."
"You never told us that you were part of this case." Leroy said. "It was a huge deal when the news first starting broadcasting it."
"I didn't think it was important to our investigation." Michael answered.
"And now?" I asked.
"I don't think so." Michael answered.
"But-" I started, but Michael's phone buzzed on the table. He picked it up and looked at a text message. He stood up, quickly gathering his things.
"I'm sorry," He said. "But I have to go home. Something just came up."
"Oh, alright." Leroy said. "I hope everything is okay."
"We'll talk more later, okay?" I asked and Michael nodded.
"Thanks." He said, leaving. "I'll talk to you guys on Monday." And just like that, he was gone.
Why wouldn't Michael elaborate more on the case? Did something happen to him during the investigation? Kashan was also a lead investigator... perhaps that's why Michael never mentioned anything? Leroy saw my confusion.
"I'm sure he didn't say anything because it opened old wounds." Leroy said. "You know, because of Kashan's death."
"Right." I said, not fully believing it. "Probably." There was a few more minutes of awkward silence, as I pondered my questions.
"Okay, then!" He said enthusiastically, clapping his hands together, startling me. "We should get working. Afterall, this case isn't going to solve itself!"
