Unknown- The Shadow

The woman didn't even notice him, as she came home that night. The rest of her family was already gone, out of the house for the night. It was only her that resided in the place.

He stayed there, silent, waiting in the shadows. She remained oblivious to his hiding spot, putting down her bag, taking off her shoes, and walking into the kitchen. The sudden bright light made him wince, but he stayed in the living room. After a few minutes, she finally came towards him. He got ready, knife at the perfect angle. As soon as she turned on the lights, he struck.

She put on quite the fight. He was covered in cuts and bruises. But she was no match for him.

Now, she laid on the floor dead, covered in her own blood, the redness pooling. He looked at the knife, covered in the dark, sticky substance. It was too messy of a kill this time. But, no matter. It will have to do.

He stepped around the body, careful to not get his shoes damp with the blood. He opened the back door of the house, and slipped out into the harsh cold. Shivering ever so slightly, he climbed the fence and disappeared into the shadows.

He waited, patiently, still looking at the house.

It wouldn't be long, until the police showed up. She did scream quite loudly. Sure enough, just as he suspected, the bright blue and red lights of two police cars and an ambulance arrived to the house.

The officers and paramedics broke down the locked front door, racing into the house. It only took a couple of minutes, before the authorities came back out, their faces hard with grief. The paramedics solemnly wheeled out the body, which was covered in a blood-speckled white sheet.

One of the officers called someone on the phone, no doubt the FBI. Yes, this was all going according to plan. He sat still, balancing the knife on one finger.

It was terrible, having to kill her. If only she hadn't been found guilty. He sighed.

It was such an unfortunate murder.
