I was planning on waiting a week before posting this chapter, but I couldn't wait any longer. I just really like how this story is turning out and can't wait a week to post one chapter. But hey, 4000 words is a decent amount.
——

Light and all the Leaders sat at a table in the meeting room. They were waiting, talking with one another, not as Leaders but as fellow Steves.

The new leaders for Indigo and Blue Steves were already settled into their new roles. After the last two leaders got corrupted, turning into Soul and Corruption Steve, their apprentices stepped up.

It took a bit to get use to, but Light thought they were doing their new job well. Yellow Leader was already trying to convince them to find apprentices, but neither one really seemed ready for that yet.

Light glanced at the door, before looking at the clock. Where was Sabre? Usually when he runs late, it's by five or ten minutes. It was never for this long. Yet there was nothing they could really do. They already sent a few messengers out to find him and tell him of the meeting. Besides that, as of yet there was nothing to be done.

Sabre was 20 minutes late to a meeting he probably forgotten about. It's not like they could mark him missing yet.

The Yellow Leader sighed, before clearing his throat. "We might as well begin. Sabre can be filled in later by one of us."

A few of the others nodded. Almost like a switch, the air turned more serious as they went from friends to Leaders. "Has anything of interest happened to you Yellow?" The Violet Leader fiddled with one of their smaller braids. Seemingly fixing a few flowers that were weaved into it.

The Yellow Leader sighed. "Darkness has been spotted near a few smaller villages, but it hasn't gotten too close as of yet. The smaller villages have asked to house the children here, since the darkness isn't such a big threat here compared to their homes."

The Orange Leader hummed, flipping through a stack of papers in front of him. "The outline for the expansion of the East side has been completed and we're now gathering the materials to start it. We could change one or two buildings to house the children until their parents are able to come."

"I could assign some of the less..." The Violet Leader tilted their head side to side as they looked for the right word. "...exuberant... Violet Steves to watch over them until their main guardian arrives."

"I can send some of the more experienced Colorless Guards to villages that have had darkness spotted nearby. A batch of new recruits just finished training. Could swap some of the ones guarding the walls with the new, and send them to protect the villages." Light spoke up. "Has anyone else had darkness nearby?"

The Violet and Orange leader held up a hand.

Light sighed. "It will take me a bit to figure out the new schedules and who will go where, so you'll have to give me a few days. Will they be fine till then?"

More nods, followed by breaths of relief.

"How are we doing on healers and supplies Green?"

The Green Leader gave a smile. "Pretty decent. Besides minor training injuries, no one has gotten severely hurt recently. A few of my color have begun to make first aid supply spots just in case of an attack. So we don't have to carry injured Steves from all over the kingdom to get healed."

Blue smiled. "The less Steves that go into the World Beyond because of the darkness and their attacks, the happier we are."

"Maybe we should have that in most of our towns." Yellow thought aloud. "While Green Steves do have the ability to heal, maybe we should focus on teaching some other colors how to do first aid just in case."
