Chapter 4: Well Now What???

We woke up the next morning to find Chit working on some interesting devices.

"Did you sleep?" Jade asked.

"I've been asleep for 500 years, I'm not tired," Chit responded.

"Good point, so what are you working on?" Oliver asked.

"Wait, is that training equipment?" I asked.

"If you are going to help me then you need to master your full capabilities, except you Nataly." Chit explained.

"Hey, if there's anything that even resembles a sword in my hands then I don't need powers!" I responded. We then went into an empty room that we never use and Chit explained everything she knew about the aliens which are actually called the Zaruthians.

"They are very big and have very sharp claws, sometimes running away is the best option when fighting them, and since they can't fit through tight spaces, escape isn't always a problem depending on your surroundings, also different forms of their species can do different things, but I don't exactly know which ones." Chit explained.

"So that's all you know, here's what we know, our world is divided, not because of politics, but because the aliens live in between the borders, making it very difficult to leave the country and impossible to leave the continent, they have very advanced technology used for battle and transportation," I explained. Chit had set up comedicaly bad statues of the aliens to practice with, so the training began and it was then that Chit revealed her super power: generating force fields.

"Like your world everyone on my planet had a different power, it's how I survived despite not joining the evacuation" Chit explained.

"Hey, does any of that training equipment in any way resemble a sword?" I asked Chit.

"Yes, but why?" Chit responded as she pulled out a blade that glowed blue. It was time for me to prove that my lack of powers didn't make me useless. I grabbed the awesome looking blade and then I realized,

"Oh my god it's so heavy!" I screamed. Once I was ready to handle the weight I told Jade to get the hologram projector and pull up the fencing montage while I did this. I jumped toward a wall and kicked off to hit one of the dummies then I lunged at another before demonstrating my parry... which was pretty much all I could do when demonstrating moves on inanimate objects, which is why I had Jade get the video montage of me at actual fencing practice. At this point Chit was able to accept that I won't die eight seconds after I come in contact with an alien. Nothing important happened for the next two days so moving on. At school things were going as they normally would, Struggle in band, excel in math, and then LA before lunch. At lunch the bullies were extra irritated for some random reason, and yelling at someone other than us for once. "(Something racist that I would get the book banned)" They yelled. Then Oliver stepped in,

"HEY! Leave him alone, just because he's new doesn't mean you can pick on him." he said. They agreed with him and... started targeting us again! Kris was just sitting with us and didn't know what was happening but as always he was bullied the most! All of us(Except Jade who was sitting with her track team) had to deal with the stereotypical bullies again,

"What we were doing didn't affect you, especially you powerless freak, so stay out of it!" they yelled at me before turning to Kris.

"How's it feel to always want to use your powers but you know you'll get in trouble if you do!?" they asked Kris in a mocking voice. Kris had enough and immediately turned invisible not even caring that he was breaking the rules he just wanted out of that situation he wasn't supposed to be involved in! The bullies, on the other hand, had no problem using their powers because jumping and being fast enough to get to class on time are not on the list of powers that are against the rules. In the end the bullies got suspended for hurting Oliver and me physically and Kris and the other kid emotionally, Kris got detention for using a power that's on the list, I was not allowed to go to fencing practice for a week because I was barely involved and the principal always finds an excuse to punish me, and Oliver was trying to help so he didn't get punished. Also I should probably clarify what the list of powers that are against the rules to use on campus:

Invisibility,

shapeshifting,

walking through walls,

Stopping time,

Anything with more than a 67% chance of damaging the building,

Teleportation,

Mind control,

Mind reading,

Moving objects with your mind,

The list goes on but it would take the whole book to finish.

Since when have the bullies been that angry for no reason? They have always been mean but that day it looked like something, or someone had made them angry and they were taking it out on that random kid and us. After school, Oliver and I found the kid who was being bullied and asked if he was ok,

"I'm fine, thank you for trying to help, even if it just got everyone in trouble." he said.

"Don't worry about it, but it was weird for them to target someone other than us." Oliver responded.

"It's just how bullies are, a new kid comes to school and they immediately target him. I've moved around a lot so I'm used to it" he said.

"Oh you're new, what's your name?" Oliver asked.

"Its Lain, Lain Vail," he responded. We both gasped when we heard the last name Vail.

"Why did you both gasp?" Lain asked.

"You wouldn't happen to be related to Shay Vail, would you?" Oliver nervously asked.

"Yeah he's my older brother, but how do you know him?"

"We have to go, we'll talk tomorrow" I said suddenly as we rushed out of there. You're probably wondering who Shay is. He is two grades above us and when we were in third grade we accidentally got on his bad side and on the last day of school it got to the point that if we ever see him again he will murder us! I sent a message to the lair to let chit know we wouldn't be there that day because with Jades race, my unfair suspension from fencing, and Kris's detention Oliver and I didn't feel like it. So we just walked home, his house is next door to mine so we always walk together but that day we were unusually quiet the whole way.
