Rewritten as if Forkle never interrupted. Also it's in Keefe pov. A good chunk of this does not belong to me. It's the original writing from the book, Shannon's writing is in italics. Spoilers for stellarlune (the spoiler is in a author's note). Sorry it's kinda short.

Goose bumps erupted across Sophie's arms and she rubbed to calm the chill.

Keefe did the same, which evidently made her realize...

"Is it harder to be around me?" she asked. "Since my emotions are stronger?"

His lips tugged into a smile. "Don't worry, you're worth it."

"Ugh-why didn't you tell me?" she stood, moving toward the door, clearly trying to put as much space between them as she could.

He laughed.

"Trust me, a few feet doesn't make a difference."

"Then you should stay away from me," she told him.

"Now you're being ridiculous."

He strode over to her, and she tried to back away but crashed into the wall.

"I'm serious, Keefe."

"Oh, I know. But you're forgetting something, Foster."

He was close enough to reach out and gently tuck her hair behind her ear as he leaned in to whisper, "I like a challenge."

He could feel that her stomach filled with fluttery things.

"Speechless again?" he asked, grinning as he leaned in to whisper, "You know, there's something I've been meaning to tell you.

"And that is?" She asked, clearly forgetting Keefe was an empath who could see past her fake calmness. He could feel exactly how nervous she was.

He hoped he was understanding it right as a good nervousness.

Truthfully, knowing about her kiss with Dex made Keefe just as nervous as her. He really (just to clarify that's in italics just for emphasis not because shannon wrote it lmao)didn't want to lose her.

Was it really worth it?

It was.

This was Sophie Foster. Of course she was worth it.

She was worth everything.

Keefe felt something fluttery as he leaned even closer and he couldn't tell which of them the feeling was coming from.

He let out a breath. "Can I...?"

Sophie didn't say anything, but she nodded.

Keefe closed the final distance between them.

And then...everything was new. (Quote from the stellarlune kiss)

Keefe didn't have many expectations for a first kiss, yet somehow Foster exceeded them. He really hoped he wasn't misreading her emotions. Because if he was right, she enjoyed it almost more than he did.

When they both pulled away Keefe stared into her eyes.

Her wonderful, brown, unique eyes.

"I-" Sophie started, but couldn't seem to find the words. "That was..."

"Speechless yet again?" Keefe asked, with his trademark smirk.

"Shut up." Sophie told him, clearly forgetting he was an empath yet again. He had no clue how someone with a photographic memory seemed to forget his ability so often.
