Ryker pov:
It has been a grueling week of school and training, thankfully it was Friday and I was more than ready to go home. I had practice after school so I had some time to kill before then.
We spent four days in punishment because of the country club incident. In all honesty it was worth it, I still laugh thinking about the girl Athena pushed into the pool.
Grabbing my stuff out of my locker I move through the halls, trying to go to the back exit near the field. While walking I hear pretty music being played down the hall, curious I walk towards it. Hearing it come from one of the band rooms I peek my head inside.
Lyla had a calm smile on her face as she played her cello, the notes coming out perfect. I watch and listen to her play, my body unable to move from its spot. I was so captured by her and the music that I didn't notice she was looking at me.
Dark blue eyes peaked over her shoulder, a coy smile on her lips. She giggled and stopped playing, opting to face me with a teasing grin. I clear my throat and straighten up, trying to look presentable.
"It's rude to stare." She smiled and I chuckled, awkwardly adjusting the bag on my shoulder.
"Sorry. It sounded really good." I moved closer, standing to the side of her as she starts to play again.
"I would hope so. My mother insists I become perfect at it." She scoffs. The notes come out perfect again, making my brain buzz delightfully.
"Strict parents?" I set my bag down and sit beside her, watching her hands move along the strings.
"Just my mother but it's not too bad. How about you pretty boy?" My face feels hot at her comment. I rub my neck and avoid her playful gaze.
"You think I'm pretty?" I feel awkward and nervous when around her. She snorts a laugh and nods her head.
"Let's see. Fluffy black hair, nice hazel eyes, a cute smile, and that little beauty mark under your right eye. I'd say you're a pretty boy in my book." I smiled hard, my face feeling hot. She made me feel giddy and nervous.
"It's not easy being this pretty." I gave a cocky smile and she laughed, stopping her music once again.
"You're trouble. My mother would hate you." I smiled harder and scooted closer to her, feeling a little more confident.
"You like it though, right? Calling me cute, teasing me in class, even flirting with me now." She smiled and faced me, setting her cello aside.
"Yeah I do." My heart was pounding in my chest at this point. She rests her chin in the palm of her hand and tilts her head slightly.
"I didn't think I'd get this far." I said honestly, feeling butterflies in my stomach from her gaze.
"You're here now, so what are you gonna do pretty boy?"
Our eyes locked and I felt exposed under her gaze. It was sharp but warm, a distinct cruel kindness in her gaze. Reaching forward I grab a hold of her hand and run my thumb over her knuckles. I keep my gaze away from her, too embarrassed to look in her dark eyes.
"You make it hard for me to focus." I told her truthfully. Meeting her gaze I see warm blue eyes staring back.
"Is that bad?"
"Not to me."
We both smiled as we moved closer, the distance between us closing. She placed a hand on my cheek and brushed her thumb across my bottom lip. Pulling away she stood up and turned to her equipment. I felt rejected but it vanished when seeing her eyes again.
