"Humans a feeble, you should realize this at a young age. If they are stabbed they bleed out, a fall can snap a bone like ice the sound forever lingering in your mind." He paused

"But! Humans have many redeeming qualities, an urge to live and love stands out among some. Sadly a majority of the human race does not feel this urge as it is, they disguise themselves with this false ideology to convince theirselves that they are doing bad for a good reason.

Take... murder for example. A man finds out his wife has been cheating on him but does he take the time to find out why? No. He hunts down the people who she's been seeing and slashes their throats. The wife, discovers what has been done, decides to tell him. Her lasts words to him were "It was for the money." The background was that these people were very poor but the husband was prideful and would not accept any help. She was doing something she thought was bad for good reasons which caused many deaths, do you understand Cho?" My father finished his tirade with a cough.

"Maybe..." I picked up a kakuhou from a container nearby, the milky white organ slippery in my palm as I reached over the table to hand it to my father.

"Good. As you know I work for the CCG and we find ghouls who eat people, we think it's a good enough excuse to kill them on sight because they have to consume humans." He took the kakuhou and put it into a small glass bowl.

"What do you mean, ghouls kill humans in cold blood... Don't they?" I asked quietly, I always talked like I was being watched. And I was.

"Not exactly, they are just trying to nourish themselves just like us." Father said while he prepared the kakuhou in clear liquid to preserve it for a week or two.

We were standing in a CCG lab, the walls barren and grey most likely soundproof (also weapon resistant but I didn't know that then). The solitude made it seem like our voices boomed across the room as we spoke.

"If the ghouls just need to eat one corpse a month don't you think there's enough dead bodies to supply them food?" I questioned father.

"Ghouls prefer warm meat just like you and I enjoy warm steak, only a few ghouls can tolerate scavenging." He talked down to me and ruffled my hair.

I took in the quinque he was building, I hardly ever got to see his work.

"This quinque's name is Parva, a Latin name." He picked it up and slid it on his hand.

"It's very special, I tried making Parva independent so it can function on its own if I'm no-" Father was cut off, quite literally.
