Marinette was just sitting on the rock and now on a crystal ball. Then a tentacle hit the crystal ball and wrapped itself around it.

This was Ursula. The wicked sea witch, she was known to be dangerous for using spells and using people for her advantage. But also the king's younger sister. She was banned from the kingdom. Triton had many reasons as to why he had to banned his sister.
" flotsam! Jetsam!"
They are the two eels that serve Ursula but she did consider them her babies.
"I want you to keep an extra close watch on this pretty little daughter of his. She may be the key to Tritons undoing."
