"I don't need a babysitter." Raelynn grumbled as we got in the car early Monday morning "I'm still big."
"I know sweet one" I said with a smile "but you've been on the verge of little all weekend, I would hate for you to slip while I was at work and you be home alone." I said pulling out of the driveway. "Besides this babysitter you're complaining about is your mother, you will love it and you know it."
"That's not the point." She said crossing her arms in frustration "I'm 18 years old."
"Don't think of it as going to a babysitter, think of it as going to your moms house." I said pulling into the driveway and turning off the car.
"You literally brought the diaper bag." She said frowning as we got out of the car.
"It's just in case." I said trying not to laugh as she stomped up to the house and stormed past her smiling mother. "She really is excited to see you Hannah." I said grinning as April's car pulled up next to me.
"Aun Becca!" Max yelled as April helped him out of the car and he ran barreling into me for a hug "is Rae Be ere?"
"Hey big guy" I said kissing the top of his head with a grin "she is here, but give her a little space this morning okay bud." I said with a smile.
"She grumpy gain?" He asked with serious eyes.
"Max" April lightly scolded "be nice to Raelynn." She said patting his bottom as he ran up to Hannah and gave her a hug before slipping into the house.
"Not off to a good start?" April asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I woke up to a very grumpy very big Raelynn." I said with a shrug "she didn't even say hi to her mom when we got here."
"Gotcha" she said as we walked up to the house and prepped Hannah for the day. We quickly said our goodbyes to Max and asked Hannah to say bye to Rae when she came out of hiding. "See you at the office" April said as we got into our respective cars and drove away.
My morning was filled with meetings and paperwork, making it simultaneously fly by and drag on. When I sat down for my lunch break I called Hannah to check on the kids genuinely unsure how their day was going.
"Hello" she said in a calm voice. I could hear Bluey in the background and smiled at the once familiar show.
"Hey Hannah it's Becca" I said taking a drink of water "I just wanted to check in on Rae see how she's doing."
"She's alive" Hannah said with a bit of humor in her voice "I haven't seen her much today, she's tucked herself up in the loft and is not interested in interacting with anyone."
"I'm sorry" I said with a sigh.
"It's fine" she said chuckling "Rae was not a rebellious teenager, she never felt safe enough. So it's interesting to see this side of her even if it's just a little bit of attitude."
"Thanks for putting it into perspective for me" I said with a small smile "I love that girl with my whole heart, but she's been pushing my buttons lately" I said chuckling.
"She trusts you enough to show you her worst" Hannah said softly "I'm grateful for that" she said as I heard a crash "oh Max" she said with a chuckle "that's my call." She said saying goodbye and hanging up.
I looked up at April with a smile when she walked in my office a couple hours later and looked at the clock in surprise. "Oh wow" I said saving my document and shutting my laptop with a grin "I didn't even realize what time it was." I quickly packed up my desk and called my secretary letting her know that I was heading out for the night before walking out of the office with April.
"Meet you there." April said, jumping into her car and pulling out of the parking lot. When we pulled up to the house we paused at the door when we heard loud music and laughter coming from inside. "What's going on in here?" April said pushing open the door to see Hannah and Max dancing around the living room to Disney music.
"Oh man" Max said with a frown "we just started dancin Mama!" Max said with a laugh "Rae said go way when I asked" he said looking at me with a frown.
"She's still in the loft." Hannah said quietly pointing at the stairs that led to the small loft on the top floor.
I slowly walked upstairs expecting to find a very grumpy teenager but was surprised to see Raelynn staring back at me with big tear filled eyes.
"Hey baby" I said softly walking over to her and sitting on the giant nest of pillows and blankets she had created "what's wrong?"
"I anna dance" she said looking up at me with big eyes.
"Okay" I said with a smile "let's go dance."
"No" she said shaking her head "Mama no ant me to, Max too."
"Of course they do" I said pulling her onto my lap trying to conceal my excitement.
"No, I be mean to dem" she said with a frown looking up at me.
"Well how about we go down there and you apologize." I said kissing her nose with a smile "and then we ask if we can dance with them."
"You go wif me Mommy?" She asked me with big eyes.
"Always sweet girl" I said giving her a smile "always." I said picking her up and starting the trek downstairs. By the time we made it to the living room the music was off and Max had his shoes on to leave, so I smiled encouragingly at a very disappointed looking Rae.
I looked at April with a grin when she not so subtlety gasped when everyone noticed we were in the room.
"Rae has something she would like to say and ask everyone." I said giving her a smile and a squeeze.
"I sowwy for bein mean" she said looking at Max and Hannah "dat not nice of me." She said shaking her head.
"Dats okay." Max said with a smile, not realizing the significance of this moment.
"Of course it's okay sweetheart, you've had a rough couple of weeks angel." Hannah said with a smile and teary eyes.
"Can we till dance?" She asked looking around the room hopefully.
"You want to have a dance party?" April asked with a smile "let's do it!" She said taking off her and Max's shoes as Hannah turned the music back on.
I set Raelynn down and watched as her and Max ran to each other with big smiles on their faces.
"What happened?" April asked looking at me in surprise as Hannah walked over to me with big eyes.
"I have no idea." I said with a shrug "I walked up there expecting to find an angry teenager and instead found a sad toddler."
"I am so sorry." Hannah said catching me by surprise looking at me with big eyes.
"What?" I asked in surprise "why?"
"I didn't even realize, I have no idea how long she was up there like that." She said.
"Oh Hannah, you have nothing to apologize for." I said with a soft smile "it happened because of the dancing" I said with a shrug "so she wasn't up there long." I said smiling when she sighed in relief.
"Come on Mama" Max yelled as Rae ran up and grabbed both Hannah and my hand and pulled us out so we could all celebrate Rae finding her little again!Hey!! Thanks for sticking around guys 😬 hope you enjoy this update!
