"If you don't have anything productive to say, just don't say anything at all." I said to my business associate as he walked into my office and opened his mouth with a huff. I raised my eyebrow as he opened and closed his mouth for a few seconds. "Look Jared, I'm not in the mood for anybody's shit today but I'm especially not in the mood for yours. So please just go."
He rolled his eyes and walked out of the office. I pursed my lips as he shut the door behind him, Jarrod was one of my only employee's who I would let get away with that attitude. He was good at what he did, and he had been with the company from the beginning. AB Technology might not be where it is today if it wasn't for him and I wasn't to proud to admit that.
I looked down at my bracelet and frowned there were still no numbers on my screen and it was hitting me hard today. My secretary had the day off because her bracelet went off yesterday. Her dominant took had taken his test and flew in from out of code. I was excited for her but had a feeling I was going to have to find a new secretary.
"Cheer up buttercup!" April said as she walked into the room with her tablet in hand. April was my best friend and Co-CEO. "I know you're upset about Kate but you can't keep that frown on your face forever."
"I'm not upset about Kate." I said with a huff. "I just want to meet them so bad it aches. I thought I didn't want this April but the last couple of years they are all I can think about."
"I know." She said with a laugh "I remember I had to drag you kicking and screaming to take the test. And then you found out you were a mommy and you were even more mad. But for a while we were so focused on building ABT it didn't matter much. But now it practically runs itself and we have time to think. I want it too." She said with a sigh "It's been almost 9 years for us Bec our babies are literally going to be babies. And I can't wait to hold them." She said with a laugh as she stood up. "I need you to approve this paperwork before you head home for the night." she said as she set the paperwork in front of me. And then it happened.
"Oh my God." I whispered as my bracelet beeped and a number appeared. 77689. I don't know how long I stared at the bracelet before I heard it again. My head snapped up and I looked at April who was staring at me with wide eyes "April." I said as she slowly looked at her wrist.
"77672." She cried "They have the same area code. And there practically the same age." She said looking back at me "They might know each other." She laughed.
My hand was shaking as I picked up the phone and dialed the number I had memorized. "Hello." My voice cracked. I took a deep breath before I continued. "Hi, my bracelet just went off and I would like to get the location of my little." I asked trying and failing to mask my excitement, I got the code of my littles location and mouthed code 12 to April with a smile. "I'm booking a flight from Code 2 as soon as we hang up, we will arrive later today. Do you have a name and age of my little?" I smiled as she told me the information about my little before I passed the phone to April, so she could get her information.
"So?" I asked April as she hung up the phone.
"His name is Maxwell Anderson. He turned 18 about two weeks ago, but they couldn't tell me why his bracelet just turned on. The operator told me if I looked up his profile I could see his extension request form though." She said as she turned to the computer. "And you?" She asked looking at me.
"Her name is Raelynn Carter." I said with a smile "She turns 18 tomorrow. So she waited until the last second just like me." I laughed. "He's adorable." I said as April pulled up Maxwell's profile and a photo of a curly red head popped up on the screen.
"It says he's 5 foot 1 inch 110 ponds. Red head and blue grey eyes. Here's the request form." She said clicking on the link and skimming the form that popped up. "That's so sad." she said as she finished reading the form. "I hope his friend found her match so he doesn't have to leave her behind. I'm proud of him for protecting her though. Becca look at them!" She said showing me two pictures of Maxwell and another small girl. One was when the pair were about 5 years old and they were covered in mud from head to toe and the other was a recent picture of the pair at a skateboard park both holding onto skateboards and thankfully helmets arms thrown over each other's shoulders. They both had huge smiles on their faces in both pictures. "They are so cute. It is going to be so hard to split them up they have been friends for forever."
