chapter 7-Raelynn

"Are you sure we can't postpone one more day." I heard Becca whisper into her phone as she ran her fingers through my hair. I was curled up in the bed pretending to sleep next to her. She quietly stood up and surrounded my body with pillows before she walked into the bathroom leaving the door open, so she could see me on the bed. "You're on speaker and Rae is sleeping, so please be quiet."

"I tried to get us time." April said with a soft sigh "But we've been gone for a couple of days now, they really need us back."

"She's so close to slipping April." Becca whined into the phone "You should have seen her last night it was adorable. I don't want to mess up what we have by leaving her for an entire day."

"Then don't." April said "Bring her with you and I'll bring Max. I'm sure we can find a way to entertain them while we get in a few hours of work."

"You think that would be okay?" Becca asked quietly

"We're the bosses" April said "So yeah I think it would. I will see you in an hour."

I heard Becca groan as she hung up the phone, she walked back into the bedroom, and sat down next to me. "Hey Peanut." She said brushing the hair out of my face "It's time to wake up."

"I no wan' get up." I said with a huff as I rolled away from her. I might have been awake, but I didn't want to leave the warm cocoon of these blankets.

"I know baby." She said picking me up and setting me on her lap so my head rest on her shoulder and my legs were on either side of her. "But we have to go to mo—my work for a little bit." She said with pink cheeks.

The last couple of days I noticed that Becca would start to say a word and then interrupt herself halfway through. Almost like she interrupted her mom at the airport. But when I asked her why she kept doing it she just acted like she didn't know what I was talking about.

"Okay." I said with a sigh as she picked me up and walked to the bathroom. She tickled me as I pouted, and I started giggling as I tried squirming out of her arms.

"Come on sunshine." She said laughing with me "no more pouting!" I pushed her hands away as I continued to laugh, and she set me down on the bathroom counter and grabbed some clothes to change me into.

"Can we sing a song?" I asked as she pulled a shirt over my head and put my arms through the sleeves.

"Of course, baby." She said pulling me off of the counter "which one do you want to sing? The wheels on the bus?" I shook my head no with a smile "twinkle twinkle little star? How about the five little monkeys?"

"Yeah!" I said jumping up and down and laughing as she smiled and knelt in front of me.

"Ok my little monkey, but I need your help." She said as she held out a pair of pants for me to step into "Five little monkeys jumping on the bed, one fell off and bumped his head." We sang together as we finished getting ready. We finally walked downstairs, and I skipped to the kitchen table to eat breakfast, but Becca groaned as she pulled out her cell phone and looked at the time. "We're going to have to eat at the office peanut, we are running so late!" She said picking me up and running out to the car. She buckled me in the backseat and then ran to the front see so she could drive to her office.

"Woah." I whispered to myself as we pulled up to a really tall building and parked in front of the door. I waited for Becca to walk around to my side of the car and open the door for me before I got out and watched as she handed the keys to the guy standing in the doorway.

"Thanks Harry." She said with a smile as we walked into the building and past the front desk. "Do you want to press the button?" Becca asked as we walked into the elevator "We have to go all the way up." She said picking me up and tossing me in the air before she set me on her hip.

"Max!" I yelled as the elevator opened and I saw him and April standing in the open. Becca set me down, so I could run to Max and give him a hug. "I missed you." I said pulling away.

"I missed you too Rae beam it's been like 3 days!" He said with a big smile "How are you?" he asked grabbing my hand and looking at the fading bruises on my wrists.

"I'm good Maxxie no new bruises." I said.

"And there never will be." Becca said walking up behind us with two bagels in her hand as she pushed us into her office. "Ok babies, April and I have to go to a quick meeting." She said setting our bagels on her desk. "By the time you guys finish with breakfast we should be back." Before she walked out of the room she turned on her computer and pulled up a movie, so we could watch something while they were gone. I think Becca said something else, but I was distracted by the movie as she quickly ran out of the room shutting the door behind her.

Max and I had finished eating and were both sitting in the spinning office chair watching the movie when somebody walked in the room and caught us by surprise.

"Thank god you're back Becca. I don't know why you guys were gone for so long but we were lost without you." He finally looked up from his paperwork and squinted at us as I pulled my thumb out of my mouth in shock and looked back and forth between Max and the new guy.

"Who are you?" He asked "And how did you get in here?"

"uuumm." I started to say looking at Max in shock "I-I-I Bec—"

"You don't belong here." He said marching over to us and grabbing our arms. He picked us both up out of the chair and I cried out as I felt his hand squeeze around my arm. As I tried to wiggle out of his grip he squeezed tighter and started walking towards the door. "I will call the police if I have to."

"No pease." I said with a hiccup as I started to cry "No police pease."

"Et go! Et go!" I heard Max yell out "You urting me, pease et go!"

"I jus ant Becca." I cried causing the man to pause for a second before he continued towards the door.

"I don't know how you know that name, but you need to leave!" He yelled as the door swung open and Becca and April ran into the room.

"Let go of them Jarod!" Becca yelled

"What the hell are you doing?" April asked at the same time.

Jarod stuttered a few times before he froze and finally let us go, II ran to Becca and she picked me up pulling me tight against her.

"I no like cary man." I cried into her shoulder "He urt my arm." I said holding out my arm for her to look at.

"I know baby, I'm so sorry." She said rocking me from side to side "Don't cry my sweet girl." She said rubbing my back as I whimpered into her shoulder.

"I don't know what's going on." I heard Jarod say, "But I'm sorry for hurting them?"

"There are new littles." Becca said with a soft sigh as she walked to the door and opened it "We'll talk later Jarod." She said closing the door behind him. She walked over to the couch and set me down on it and rolled up my sleeve to look at the bruise already forming on my arm. "Damn it." She whispered dropping her head to her chest.

"Why he urt me?" I asked rubbing my eye with the fist of my free hand. "I no did anyting to 'im"

Becca looked at me with big eyes and whipped the tears from my cheek "How old are you baby?" she asked holding my hands and looking in my eyes.

"I no know." I said with a shrug "But I know I yittle. Maybe I tree or two."

She smiled at me before she glanced at April and pulled me into a hug. I heard April whisper "Max too." Before Becca picked me up and started patting my bottom. I felt my eyes getting heavy as Becca and April walked around the room whispering to each other.

"Are you asleep yet baby?" Becca asked trying to look at me as we walked out of the building.

"Not yet ecca." I said rubbing my eyes as she buckled me in the back seat and kissed me on the nose and draped her coat over me.

"Snuggle up bug." She whispered as she shut the door and got into the driver's seat. I was asleep before we hit the main roads.
