"Come on, where is she?" I heard JJ groan from the porch, "I'm not going to Midsummer without her!"
"Chill, JJ. She's still getting ready." John B tried to console him, making me grin and look at Sarah.
"Y/n let's go, you look great." Sarah grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the mirror, I took one last glance at the waterfall black dress I wore.

I flipped my curled hair a few times with my hand then sighed, nodded to Sarah, and let her lead me out of the guest room of the Chateau.
We walked through the kitchen and I stopped snatching one of JJ's half-empty beers from the counter, "Wait!"
I tipped the beer over into my mouth and chugged the rest of the drink. She yanked my hand and I yelped. "Do we have to go? I mean... kooks. That's reason enough to stay home."
"No, you already agreed, JJ's waiting." She dragged me to the door and opened it, immediately smiling when she came into contact with John B.
I walked down onto the porch and smiled when I saw JJ turn around below the steps. He looked out into the ravine in front of John B's house. The screen door of the Chateau slammed and I jumped softly as JJ turned around.
He looked at me with a blank expression and I smiled looking down at the black material. I walked down the steps, "I know it's screams koo-"
"Beautiful." He finished my sentence and I looked up at him, unable to wipe the smile off of my face. I reached up and straightened his tie. Pope and Kiara got up from the hammock and walked toward the rest of us.
"Finally!" Kiara whined.
"What?" I asked, a blush creeping up to my cheeks.
"You're finally done getting ready." She clarified and I sighed, nodding.
JJ wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I laughed, swaying us softly side to side as we got closer to the Twinkie. Pope and Kiara held hands as they got in behind us and John B pecked Sarah's lips after opening and closing her door for her.
I glanced at JJ and then looked back at my hands. He gave me an uncomfortable look and then leaned back in his seat next to me. I looked up at Kiara and she shrugged, looking at the space in between us then raised her hands inconspicuously and pointed out both of her index fingers, slowly pushing them together. I shook my head and quickly looked away from her when JJ looked up again.
I looked out the window as we approached the country club where Midsummer was being hosted. We all collectively got out, but as soon as our feet hit the concrete we regrouped into pairs of two. JJ and I walked side by side, our shoulders brushing up against each other a couple of times, "I'd rather be at home right now." I sighed, throwing him a small smile.
"I'm just glad I'm here with you..." He said, "It would suck to be here without my best friend. Friends."
My smile faltered slightly as I nodded to what he was saying, I looked forward, following the rest of the group into the main entrance. I felt cold metal against the back of my hand then against the inside of my fingers and his warm hand intertwined with mine.
I turned my head toward him but he ignored my gaze, even though the sly smirk on his face told me he knew what he was doing. I smiled and shook my head, re-adjusting my grip on his hand as I pulled us forward trying to get closer to Pope and Kiara as they walked in front of us into a large canopy opening.
I looked up and admired the fragrant smell of the flowers lined above our heads. "I think it's picture time."
I grinned and turned to him after the sentence left his lips, "Really? You hate formal photos."
"Who said they were going to be formal?" He grinned and I smacked his shoulder handing my phone to Kiara as JJ and I posed in front of the canopy. He stuck his tongue out and flipped off the camera. I smacked his chest and Kiara snapped a picture.
He changed positions quickly slinging his arm over my shoulder and pulling me closer to his chest, before the camera flashed I felt him press his lips to my cheek and I grinned.
Kiara squealed and I shushed her and turned to JJ, he gave me a small smile and I took a deep breath. Did he kiss my cheek? Really?
Kiara and Pope pushed us out of the way as John B and Sarah took their pictures. I stumbled softly on the uneven gravel and caught myself on JJ's chest, I looked up at him and smiled, flattening out his suit. He brushed a piece of hair behind my ear and I smiled barely.
There was a soft mist in the air as if it was about to rain. I breathed in the refreshing scent and looked at JJ again. "If it rains, it would probably make this night ten times better." I tried making conversation.
"You want to know what would make this night ten times better for me?" JJ asked quietly, he ran his thumb against my jaw.
"What?" I whispered as he tilted my head up higher.
"Do you trust me?" He asked as his lips came closer and I had the strangest feeling of calm I've ever felt in my life.
"Not even a little bit," I muttered back as he pressed his lips against mine. I indulged for a few seconds before pulling away.
"JJ-" I breathed out.
"What?" He said softly and stepped back.
"We're friends. We aren't-" I tried to reason.
"Are we though?" He asked, holding onto my forearms, "I mean- Come on, you can't act like we aren't something more." He started, pulling me closer.
I looked up at him, his eyes lingered with something that I thought resembled hope, as his hand found my jaw.
"Everyone already thinks we are together. And come on how much more couple-y can we get before it gets gross?" He asked, making me smile.
"Then what are we?" I whispered softly as JJ hugged my waist to his.
"Simply, more than friends..." He mumbled, "For right now."
"I'm okay with that." I felt a warmth rise in my cheeks as he dipped his head down again, pressing a delicate kiss against my lips.
