Harry's POV
**
After I dropped off Lou with Lyla I went on my own way. I wasn’t ready to go back home yet and I could tell the two of them wanted to be alone and further their getting to know each other. I could tell my best friend really liked her. I hadn’t seen him look at a girl like that since El, and the way they spoke to each other helped me see she felt the same way about him. Marilyn wasn’t their when we went by, and Lyla said she hadn’t seen her since she came up to grab a hoodie around 10. I asked Lyla if she thought Marilyn was alright, but she told me not to worry, because Marilyn was very independent.
Of course, I made my way to the beach.
When I discovered the deserted wonderland I lost control of my body and lightly plopped onto the sandy floor, releasing a “sigh” sound. I laid on my stomach with my head curved slightly up, resting on my crossed arms, so I could watch the ocean. There was something about the ocean after midnight… the serenity of it all was something that you only read in fairy tales, or fan fiction. I lightly hummed “Fix You” by Coldplay while staring at the night before me. I looked to my left, seeing no one in sight… then to my right.
To the right of me I noticed a person, laying on their back, looking at the starry night. They were quite far but I was able to make that out. I stopped my humming to see if I could hear anything coming from the being.
I heard soft singing, from a familiar voice. That familiar and lovely voice was not only from someone I secretly hoped I'd see out here, but was also singing one of One Direction's songs, “Moments”.
And the tears stream, down my face… Marilyn sang.
getting up, I decided to join her by singing my part,
If we could only have this life, for one more day… if we could only turn back time.
She turned to me startled, not knowing anyone was around.
“Harry?” She asked me, sitting up. Her hair was in a messy bun, and she looked so comfortable and cute.
“… Hi.” I said to her, smiling like a little boy.
I could have easily ignored her presence, annoyed with the fact Niall and her kissed today, but I managed to push it aside. I just wanted to be around her, it didn’t matter if she liked me or not. It bummed me out… but I’d get over it.
She got up in her abnormally large hoodie, which managed to cover the yoga shorts she was wearing underneath, it was practically a dress on her. She whipped off the sand on her legs and came running over to me, looking more like skipping.
When she got to me she lunged forward and she wrapped her arms around my neck into a Marilyn hug. I responded some what fast and wrapped mine around her waist, I could hear her laughter quickly fade to silence, when that happened I pulled away to look at her.
“Is everything-“
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you all day, Harry!” She interrupted me, clearly faking a smile.
I looked down at her, my eyes questioning her words. But I brightened my tone of voice to hopefully cheer up her weary mood.
“I heard about LA Reid! I actually was there when he gave Niall the CD. I wanted to call you and tell you so badly! But I knew it was meant for Niall to tell you.” My tone lost the energy towards the end, I couldn’t help it.
Marilyn ran her fingers through her bangs, I loved it when she did that, I remember when she looked at me and did that in my hotel room when we first met, she’s stunning. She then took a deep breath, turned her back towards me, and proceeded to say,
“I haven’t even called him yet. I’m actually pretty nervous…”
“You should call him right now! Make sure you go straight to voicemail though so you don’t wake him up. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t take 1am walks to think like we do.” I told her.
“So that’s why you’re out here too? Thought so. We’re a lot alike, Styles. Maybe that’s why I feel so comfortable around you.” She said turning back to me, and smiling with her eyes.
“This is very true. But uh…” I said then before swiftly grabbing her phone out of her hand to dial LA’s number.
“Hey!” she yelled laughing, trying to grab her phone back, but I ran away from her chuckling while dialing the number.
When it got to voicemail, I handed the phone back to her to talk. She looked surprised and slightly out of breath but she regained composure quickly.
I watched her leave the voicemail, and her words flew perfectly, she was so polite.
“Hello Mr. Ried, this is Marilyn Alaine. I received notice that you were interesting in talking to me about my music. Thank you so much for your interest and I couldn’t be more honored to spend time with you and share with you who I am as an artist…” She started. She added a little more and put in extra thank you’s. At one point she looked over at me and she did one of those things where you don’t want to smile, but you do anyways. I could feel my heart sink when she did that.
After she hung up, she plopped onto the ground and sat criss cross while looking at the shining sea. I made my way over to her and sat down beside her. She pushed me playfully, then I swayed away from her jokingly and came back slightly closer than before.
“Thanks.” She said smiling.
I flipped my hair then looked over at her, her eyes still watching the water.
“You’re welcome.” I responded, keeping my eyes on her, waiting for her to look at me. I could tell she was hesitant to for some reason, but I wasn’t worried since she was smiling. Finally she turned to me and looked at me in the eyes, still smiling like a princess. I couldn’t help but smile back, I could feel my dimples appearing.
“Stop it!” she shouted flirtatiously at me. This was good.
“What!?” I laughed, throwing my hands in the air.
“Being all… I mean… just… looking at me like that.” She answered, her smile slowly fading to vulnerability.
I wanted to know what she was going to say at first, but I kept it at that.
“I can’t! I’m just proud of you. I knew someone was going to snatch you up fast. Either a producer or Niall. I guess both though, huh?” I started excited then grew sad. She looked at me with despair.
“Niall kissed me today. It wasn’t how I expected it would be. I guess it just showed me I can’t rush into things.” she just blurted out.
Wait so she didn’t like him? Marilyn, you’re so confusing.
“I get that.” I said, smiling again.
“I knew you would.” She smiled up at me.
Suddenly she scrunched her eyebrows at the top of my forehead. before I could ask what for, she moved a stray curl out of my face, her soft hands lightly touching my head. There was something about her touch. I could feel myself losing air. I had felt this with her before, but this time she moved MY hair out of my face. When our eyes found each other again, we smiled simultaneously, then both laid down to look at the sky.
Seconds later, she put her head on my side.
I had her full friendship.
She felt safe.
And truthfully, so did I.
