Jalen stands by the grill, expertly flipping burgers and basting chicken wings, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of Letty. Devonta and AJ, his teammates, and close friends, stand nearby, playfully bantering with each other."So, Jalen, what's the deal with you and Bry? Y'all still together?" Devonta asked grabbing water out of the cooler from beneath Jalen.
Jalen sighs, a hint of frustration tugging at the corners of his lips.
" Nah, man, we broke up. Things just weren't working out." Jalen confessed to Devonta.
"Really? 'Cause it seems like you two are always on and off. Can't keep up with you, man."
Jalen chuckles, trying to brush off the topic.
"Nah, it's not like that. We're done for real this time. Trust me." Even though Jalen said this to his teammates it seemed like he was trying to convince himself too.
But deep down, Jalen knows that his relationship with Bry is far from settled. The uncertainty gnaws at him, and he finds himself talking about Letty more often than he intended.
Devonta smirks, nudging AJ with his elbow.
"It's probably cause he got eyes on my cousin."
AJ joins in, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
" Yeah, sick of you tryna advance on my best friend."
Jalen rolls his eyes, trying to play it cool.
"Nigga, that is not ya best friend."
"And she damn as sure ain't ya friend." Devonta joked with his teammate.
"Naw, she can't stand you right now." AJ joined in on this.
"Where she at anyway?" Jalen curiously looked up waiting for Devonta to answer.
"She wit her brother." Devonta answered suspiciously.
"She got a brother?" Jalen quickly asked.
"Yea, Tyler on the Bengals," Devonta answered him once again.
"I ain't know that was her brother, they got different last names." Jalen raised his bushy eyebrow.
"Tyler got their mom last name, and Let got their dads."
"She's a daddy's girl, Tyler not that close to their dad he wasn't in his life as much since he was in jail. He got out when Letty was born. So she's super close to him where Tyler still creating a bond with dude." Devonta continued.
"Damn nigga anything else?" Devonta rolled his eyes.
"Naw." Jalen replied in deep thought, of course she's a daddy's girl Jalen thought to himself.
Devonta knew she was going for Joe but he figured she seen her brother too. Plus he didn't feel like answering anymore of Jalen's question because he knew if he brought up Joe they would be at this grill all night.
"You think I'm bad with protecting her? Tyler twenty times worse." Devonta chuckled at the last part.
However, his infatuation with Letty, the enigmatic nurse who had captured his heart, proved to be a secret he couldn't contain. With every mention of her name, his face would light up like a thousand stars, betraying the depths of his emotions. His teammates couldn't help but notice and playfully tease him about his newfound infatuation.
AJ smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah, we know how it is. Seems like Letty's got you wrapped around her finger, man. You've been talking about her nonstop."
