" Maybe it's these memories or maybe it's the chase, or maybe it's whenever I roll over to your face."
Jalen found himself back in Bry's bed again like a boomerang that always comes back around.
He didn't know if it was out of love or out of routine anymore.
Jalen found himself wrestling with his emotions, caught between the love he once felt for Bry and the reality of the present. He couldn't shake the feeling that the spark between them had dimmed over time.
As he spent more time reflecting, Jalen realized that the love he had for Bry was genuine, but it had changed. The passion and excitement they once shared seemed to have faded, replaced by a sense of familiarity and routine. He knew that relationships evolved and went through different phases, but he couldn't ignore the fact that something felt missing.
Even with all being said he couldn't stop himself from running back to her.
In a flash, it seemed like Bry turned from the love of his life to a placeholder to distract him from something more meaningful.
Their relationship these days was just sustained on sex.
~
"Fuck Letty." Jalen groaned into Bry's lips.
As their bodies collided, Jalen's mind wandered, and without realizing it, he let Letty's name slip from his lips.
Bry's eyes immediately narrowed, and her face contorted with anger. "What did you just say?" she snapped. She instantly jumped from on top of Jalen aggressively wrapping the silk sheets around her naked body.
"Are you fucking serious right now?"
Jalen's heart sank as he realized his mistake. He tried to backtrack, "Uh, baby it's not like that."
Bry was having none of it. "Why did you just say her name? I thought we were done with all that. Are you still thinking about her? Is that why you keep mentioning her name?"
Jalen's frustration grew, as he never meant to hurt Bry. "No, it's not like that. It was just a slip of the tongue. I didn't mean anything by it."
But Bry wasn't convinced. She had been insecure about Jalen's feelings for Letty ever since she found her Instagram in his search history.
She didn't know who this woman really was or why her boyfriend seemed to have this powerful attraction to her.
But she knew whatever or whoever this woman is she must have had a big impact on him because he's still drawn to her even years later.
Bry couldn't help but hate the girl.
"Sure, it was just a slip of the tongue," Bry retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "All it took was one look at her at a football game and you're obsessed with this bitch, you don't even know anything about her do you?"
Jalen sighed, feeling trapped in a situation he didn't want to be in. He loved Bry, but he couldn't deny the lingering thoughts he had for Letty. He tried to reassure Bry, "You're the one I want to be with, Bry. I love you."
No, he didn't love Letty but he was captivated by her from the minute he met her
There was something so strong about this woman, you couldn't deny the way gravity brought you to her.
Maybe it was lust?
Jalen hated to admit to himself Bry was right, he barely did know her.
He doesn't even know her favorite color.
Even though, he'd like to think it was blue and green from the multiple appearances of the two colors In her office.
Or how he believes there's a certain side to her that she tries to hide away even maybe from her beloved Joe.
Or even how she must sound like an angel while moaning your name.
"Bry she's engaged." Jalen quickly stated trying to justify this whole situation.
"Yeah, but do you know that?" Bry aggressively questioned.
Bry was too hurt and angry to hear his words. She got up from the couch and stormed out of the room, leaving Jalen feeling guilty and confused.
~
" You said what man?" AJ quickly glanced at his teammate while in the lifting room.
"I know, I have to be the stupidest nigga to exist." Jalen shook his head.
AJ let out a low whistle. "Man, you've got it bad, huh?"
Jalen sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, I guess I do. It's just... I can't stop thinking about her. It's like no matter how hard I try, she's always on my mind."
"It's probably cause you can't have her, you know how it be," AJ grunted as he put the weight back on the bar.
"I don't know she be pissing me off like she's so entitled sometimes, all she cares bout is being mad at me."
"Like bruh you too fine to be scrunching up ya face every time you see a nigga." Jalen grabbed the sweaty towel he's been drying himself with.
"Shit It's probably cause your lil girlfriend destroyed her office and you had an attitude about her being your nurse."
~~~
Bry sat in her chic, dimly lit apartment, surrounded by an array of papers scattered across her coffee table. She was deep in thought, devising a master plan to get back at Letty. Her heart still stung from their interaction at her office and the conversations she had with Jalen surrounding her, and she couldn't stand the thought of Letty being so close to Jalen, especially now that she knew she was his nurse.
Her phone buzzed, pulling her attention away from her thoughts. It was a text from her close friend, India, who had always been there to listen and support her.
Hey girl, what's up? How are you holding up?" India asked over the phone hopeful her friend was going to be in good spirits.
"I'm so angry, Indy! I can't believe Jalen acting like this over a chick he ain't know." Bry let out a deep sigh over the phone.
"Maybe we can do something about it," India suggested.
"I mean the bitch can't be perfect." India was brewing something in her mind she didn't know what yet but she knew it had to be drastic.
Sure, Letty wasn't flawless, but then again, is anyone?
