Sunny was in the lead, Basil about to come in second... again. A strange shadow jumped away from the window, making Sunny glance at it. He looked back. A giant "2" was before him, while he was in front of the finish line. He had driven into a wall. He came in second due to how far ahead of everyone he was and (luckily) that he drove into the wall at an angle. The darkness outside made it difficult to tell what the shadow that made him lose was.

"Yay! I won!" Basil celebrated next to him. Sunny loved how his smile looked. In a non-romantic way, specifically. The black-haired boy couldn't keep his eyes off Basil's face as it glowed with joy. He turned to Sunny with a smile. "Waaait, were you letting me win?"

"No, no. Of course not." Sunny smiled, not wanting to ruin Basil's celebration.

Basil hugged Sunny suddenly, making him blush. "You didn't have to do that for me, you goober."

"R-Right." Sunny replied. He felt flustered. Probably just something non-romantic in tone he was thinking of.

After justifying to himself how everyone wants to kiss their friends sometimes, Sunny pulled out of the hug.

Basil held Sunny's hands, making him blush again. "I promise, Sunny. As long as I'm here with you, I'll keep you safe."

Sunny spotted someone outside of the window in his peripheral vision. "Basil, someone is outside the window." He informed.

The pair simultaneously looked over suddenly, seeing the silhouette rush away quickly, around the corner of the house.

"L-Let's go to my room... and lock the front door..." Basil said awkwardly. Sunny nodded in agreement. Quickly, the bright-haired boy rushed to the door and locked it, then rushed back to Sunny's side.

The two then proceeded to walk together to Basil's room. There was a window in this room too, sure, but it was far smaller. More... manageable.

"Sorry, there's no TV in here... I should try saving my allowance for one, but I suck with money, haha..." Basil apologized sheepishly.

Sunny blinked. He recalled when Basil told him his allowance was being increased to $1000 a week on his 13th birthday. How bad with money can you be, Basil..?

A moment of awkward silence later, Basil spoke up again. "So, um, Sunny, do you want me to... maybe read you a book? Like old times?"

Sunny nodded. He missed the days as kids he would be able to hold hands with Basil without feeling afraid of people's perceptions. When he could happily hang out with him... and Mari. And tell Mari how one day he was going to marry Basil, without her... doing something weird.

Sunny checked the window. Nobody there. Phew. He could see Basil's pool, reflecting the moon. The water was beautiful but easy to ignore.

Basil picked a book, "How about this one, Sunny? It's called Kaginonai Ori! Made by Tsu Kunatarou... weird name, huh?" Basil giggled.

Sunny shrugged. It was an odd name. The title being Japanese was also a bit odd. Hopefully, the book itself was translated.

Basil began to read, confirming it was translated into Chinese for them...

"A lot of people will try to give you advice on things they've never experienced. You get abused? 'Walk away', ignoring you're dependent on them for food, shelter, or whatever else.

People like that piss me off. I'm Hanaki Miyazaki. A stupid name, with a stupid person attached to it. I have the unfortunate ability to read minds of people... while I touch them. Useless ability aside, I'm otherwise below average at most things. God made a mistake when he made me. My parents make sure to remind me daily.

I know you probably want me to run away from them or something. I've read their minds enough to know they sure as hell don't love me and wouldn't miss me. But then what? I work on my own, at 16, homeless. I walk through the streets of Tokyo, occasionally bumping into someone and hearing them thinking about how their boss is going to kill them for being late or whatever.

It just pisses me off even more. What kind of world slaves us away to jobs for our whole lives after we're 18? This is probably when I should mention I'm a pickpocket.

My ability pretty much only comes in handy when doing that. Read their minds, see if they're strapped for cash or not, and be able to choose if they're my target. Also, get to tell if they're onto me or not.

I just bagged a wallet while explaining that. It's crowded as hell in Tokyo, so pickpocketing is practically the easiest thing in the world. Took the cash inside, throw the wallet on the ground, easy as cake... or is it pie? Whatever the phrase is.

I was just walking back home, and now I'm here. Apartment Block A17. I'm in the fantastic room of 307. A luxury suite of 3 bedrooms, one bathroom. Plus, it has a kitchen combined with a living room. Truly a room fit for a king. That was sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell.

Me, my older sister, and my parents all live-" Basil cut himself off.

"It's alright, Basil. You don't need to stop for my sake." Sunny inferred.

"No, no, I just heard something weird. Like someone was outside, walking on the deck." Basil said with an anxious expression.

Sunny and Basil walked out of his room and looked at the sliding glass door at the end of the hall, next to where his grandma's room once was.

Someone was on the deck.
