Carla barely got any sleep that night. In fact, she had only encountered this much trouble two times before; the night immediately following Murray's brain tumor diagnosis, and the night immediately following Murray's funeral about seven months later. The whole ordeal had already been hard enough on Carla when she thought it was just a random tragic occurrence, but the revelation that General Vultur had murdered him had turned her life upside-down all over again.

Never had she been so conflicted; on one hand, she was seething with rage and hatred towards the General, now wanting nothing more than to revert back to her bloodthirsty ways and ruthlessly murder the Eagle Avatar to avenge her younger brother. On the other hand, the Generals appeared to be completely invincible; though they could rapidly heal their physical wounds in seconds, the pain incurred by them would remain.

So, she didn't know what to do. She could hope that Esther could find a weakness within the Generals, but that seemed highly unlikely.

More thoughts swam through Carla's head. Were Vultur's fellow Generals aware that she had killed Murray? If they were, and were complicit in it, then that would make all of them just as bad  and monstrous as Vultur was. If they weren't, then that would open up a whole other can of worms. Would they defect from her if they learned that she murdered someone completely unrelated to the C.L.A.W's cause? Or did their loyalties run so deep that they wouldn't care? Or would it be some combination of the two? Would some defect while others remained?

Continuing to think about the whole situation made Carla's head spin so much that she began to feel physically sick. Feeling as though her entire room was quickly rotating around her, the poor girl darted out of her bed, rushed to the bathroom, fell to her knees near the toilet, and vomited into it several times until all the liquid in the bowl was grossly discolored. Despite being notably nauseous, she willed herself to stand back up and stagger all the way back to her bed after a while, throwing her weak body onto the mattress and attempting to sleep her illness off.

At the very least, her nauseous state also came with a bout of drowsiness; something that finally assisted her in getting to sleep. However, her dreams were not what other people would usually dream of. Rather than some kind of arbitrary scenario, Carla found herself dreaming of a few moments from her past.....all of which involved her and her younger brother, Murray.

-2018-

-Rosenblood Residence, Los Angeles, CA-

About a year before Nightclaw's rise, Dave Rosenblood and his two children—Carla Rosenblood and her younger brother, Murray Rosenblood—were anxiously sitting in front of their living room television and watching live, drone-recording footage of The Viper's fateful battle with Dr. Duncan Drevis, The Crawler, Mitchell, and the forces of the Crimson Skulls atop the Mercury Heights Space Needle.

Dr. Duncan Drevis was mere minutes away from firing his twisted concoction, the Herculean Serum, into the Earth's atmosphere, where it would disperse throughout the air and infect anyone who breathed it in, turning them into mindless, reckless balls of violence immediately upon contamination.....and only The Viper and her allies stood between him and total victory.

Though Carla was cheerfully watching and rooting for The Viper, completely confident that her hero would win, Dave and Murray looked more uncertain. Eventually, Dave's doubt became so apparent that he rose to a standing position and motioned for Carla and Murray to do the same.
