"Let me get this straight," Rei asked, crossing his arms after I had explained to him what happened, or at least, as much as I could recall. "You're telling me you fell from the sky and come from this region called 'Sinnoh?'"

His voice was dripped in skepticism that I couldn't even force myself to look into his gray-blue eyes. Instead, I looked over towards Professor Laventon, only getting a pitiful look. I would have thought running into my ancestor and a man who was so willing to help me earlier would give me hope that I would make it back home. I was starting to see that was far from the truth.

"It sounds crazy, I know," I said, feeling defeated. "But it's the truth, I swear! Wait! I can prove it!"

I looked down at my belt, where I had always kept my Poké Balls, but there was a problem. All six of my Poké Balls on my belt had disappeared. I looked around, knowing they couldn't have been far from me, but there was nothing lying in the sand. Not even my backpack.

Guess Arceus not only took me away from my home, but took away my treasured partners as well.

"I thought—you have to believe me," I begged, looking back up at Rei. "I mean, would someone from here be wearing this?"

Rei's eyes scanned me from head to toe. There was no way he would ever believe I was a descendant of his, so I figured it was best to keep that a secret. If it was Professor Laventon, things might have been different. Right now, I could only reason with them with logic, even if it all sounded crazy.

"You know, she isn't the first one to fall through that hole in the sky," Professor Laventon explained. "There was that one member from the Pearl Clan who fell from that great big hole. Though, he doesn't seem to have a single memory retained."

Great, I thought to myself. Professor Laventon was supposed to make me feel better, I was certain of it, but he just made me feel worse. Why was it random people were falling from the sky? Was it all because of Arceus, or was it something else?

Looking up, I finally saw the hole he was talking about. This whole time, I thought this random hole just opened up and dropped me on the ground, maybe a couple of feet away, before disappearing. That wasn't the case at all. High above the highest mountain peak, there were dark clouds that swirled above it. Streaks of light stretched across it. If it wasn't for those lights stretching out the way that they were, I would've thought they were merely clouds hovering over the tallest peak, but it was too sunny for a cloud to hover over the mountaintop, ominously spinning around.

How did I survive a drop that high? That couldn't have been possible! No wonder Rei was skeptical about all this. I would've been too.

"Fine, but you know Commander Kamado and Captain Cyllene aren't going to give a warm welcome to any outsider," Rei explained. "You're going to have to prove yourself."

He didn't have to explain himself for me to know what he meant. The boy wore what looked like a fanny pack, but with the pouch on his lower back rather than his side. I never saw anyone wear the pack to the back. Regardless, I knew he probably held his whole team of Pokémon inside of it.

Why was it everyone had to solve things through Pokémon battles anyways? Mere strength wasn't going to prove anything. It didn't make any sense.

Especially when...

"I don't have any Pokémon," I reminded him. "At least, not on me right now. I don't know where they went when I fell, so a Pokémon Battle isn't going to resolve anything."

Rei raised an eyebrow. "Why would you think I was going to suggest a Pokémon Battle? No, I'm part of the Survey Corps, and it's our job to record new Pokémon into the Pokédex. The best way to do that is catching them," he said.
