Andrew didn't say anymore as we passed through the small town that we were now residing in. I watched as the small shops filled with only what I could assume was locals. Children giggled as they held onto their parent's hands, I wanted to smile. But, I couldn't pick my lips up anymore. Andrew instantly felt the mood shift, but he didn't say anything. The last thing I wanted to do right now was fight anyway.
So we drove in silence as we headed to the market that I was no longer excited to see. But, there was still a want, so when Andrew pulled the SUV onto a dirt road my heart started to panic. Was he turning around? I straightened myself to rebel, but the car never turned around. It just kept driving deeper in the woods, "Where are you taking me?" I asked him.
"Being spontaneous." Andrew replied and smiled towards me. Blinking very slowly I stared at him.
"Is this one of your mood swings? Are you trying to get me upset?" I asked him. Andrew only chuckled and shook his head.
"No, you said you wanted a little danger, a little spontaneous. I didn't factor any risk, and it might be a little dangerous. I don't know yet." Andrew said and shrugged his shoulders, "Tomorrow we can go to the market if that is okay with you." He added.
"Okay." I said and looked at the tall trees that loomed above us, "So your spontaneous adventure is in the forest. What a surprise." I said with a hint of sarcasm. Andrew only laughed as he pulled up to a long white metal fence. He put the car in park and turned towards me.
"You're the one who wanted a little danger." He said.
"I said, a little danger could be fun." I said as I unbuckled and opened the door. Something like walking in the dark, or maybe stealing a piece of candy? Or call off training for this week? Something, but the forest, that wasn't dangerous.
My sneakers kicked the loose dirt above the soil we had parked on. The wind quickly rushed to meet my warm body and instantly freeze it. The silence in the woods was something I didn't expect. I expected loud birds or animals, but the only sounds I could hear were the screams from the winds, or when it pushed dead leaves around. "I wanted to wait until it was warmer, but who knows when that will be." Andrew said as he walked beside me. He was holding one of his jackets and offered it to me. I quickly took the large black jacket and pulled it over my shoulders. "I'm glad I found that in the back seat." He said.
"Thank you." I said in a small voice and turned to look at him, "So where to?"
"I honestly don't know." Andrew said and chuckled, "But, why don't we start over there?" He asked and pointed past the fence.
With a nod we headed into the silent woods. I looked at the rocks in the path and the trunks that raged from sizes and colors. Some had moss growing up the side, and I couldn't help but wish I had a camera. The pictures I've seen didn't even come close to seeing everything in real life. The smell of the fresh oxygen and the crisp cold. Andrew walked a little ahead of me as he peacefully kept his distance and pace. He didn't even seem to miss a step, or move out of his straight walking. I was going side to side taking in everything I could. I found myself tripping on small rocks that I didn't notice in the dying grass, or just over my two feet. I wanted to witness and touch everything, I felt as if I was a child. I softly ran my hand over the large trunks and felt the strange texture.
The blue sky guided us in the darkest part of the woods, the sun would appear once in a while. Only when the sun was shining could I see the cobwebs and birds hanging on the low branches. It seemed to highlight everything I hadn't been able to see before. Andrew didn't speak as he allowed me to run around the woods like a child. He would only look back at me when we made a sharp turn, like I would completely fall over from shifting my body. I couldn't tell how long we had been walking, but I could feel the temperature was slowly rising, and the morning coolness was quickly leaving. It was still cold, but not as bad as before.
