As soon as I stood up, I could feel eyes on me, watching as I walked back toward the car I had woken up in. I brushed dirt off of me feeling the wetness of my shirt and pants. The gray car that Amory had driven. For a moment I squinted my eyes as I thought of taking the car. It couldn't be a far drive, perhaps just a small hill. I slowly walked towards the car. My hand reached out to touch the handle, "Not that one." A man said. Quickly I looked up to see the man who I had talked to before. My hand jerked back as I stared at the older wolf. He stood feet away from me as he threw me a bag and gestured his head to the side.
With a sigh I picked up the heavy bag he threw at me and followed him, "If you take that one they will find you." The man said in a rough tone. I looked at him confused as he sighed, "It has a tracker on it." He said. I nodded and looked ahead of me to an old beat up car. The chipped paint was a nice touch to the dented door.
"This?" I asked and raised my eyebrow.
"If you follow the path down the hill you will hit the pavement in a few minutes." The man said as he walked towards the car, "What I could gather to be your stuff, is in the trunk."
"Why are you helping me?" I asked him. The man snorted as he looked at me.
"I'm not helping you." The man glared at me, "I'm helping my son."
After a moment my eyes widened as I looked up to the man. Only then could I see the resemblance to Andrew. The older man glared down at me as he opened the door and handed me the keys, "Get out of this state by nightfall tomorrow. Don't be stupid and go to Sheila or where you've been staying." He said and handed me a bottle from his back pocket, "Spray this on your hair and your neck. Perfume will lead them off your scent. Changing your diet will as well. Don't get anything that can trace you. Credit card, loans, cars. Stay off the internet and get rid of that phone by tomorrow." Andrew's dad demanded. I looked at him and widened my eyes.
"Will they know you helped me?" I asked him.
"No." He said as I watched wolves step out, "We will cover your scent." He said.
Slowly I nodded and got in the car. Quickly I put the bag he had thrown towards me in the passenger seat. And then I cranked the engine to life. Andrew's dad nodded towards me as he fell to the ground and a large black and white wolf emerged. I turned on the lights and started to follow the path. My heart raced as I got further away from Andrew. I slammed my foot on the gas as the old car jumped down the hill. I've never driven a day in my life, my hands shook on the steering wheel as the car sped up. Looking behind me I could see the large wolves following behind me. Some broke away, and others joined from the sides. Tears filled my eyes as I thought of the letter I left for Andrew. My face heated up as I held onto the wheel as tears began to fall. Keeping the windows up I leaned my head against the cool glass as I frowned.
Andrew,
I reject you. I reject you. I reject you! I don't want you. I don't need you. I reject you. STAY AWAY FROM ME! Liar! You are a liar! I wish you would have killed me. I wish you would have snapped my neck. I hate you! I hate you so much! I hate you! I'll never love someone who is as ugly on the inside as you are. Go be with her. Just stay away. I reject you. Victoria rejects Andrew.
Signed by the hideous human.
The wolves had stopped following me once I got on the street. And there I whimpered loudly and sobbed as I held onto the steering wheel, racing into the town. Towards the diner. Just somewhere, something that was familiar. But, I didn't make it. I ended up turning off on a trail, and as I cut the engine I cried. My head leaned into the steering wheel as I cried, "Why?" I whimpered softly as I held onto the old leather.
