Summary
(prologue)

Jesse Alden was always the shadow to her brother Logan Alden. Logan was a star hockey player at their school, and no surprise, extremely popular. Jesse didn't mind though; Logan's admirers seemed like a bunch of idiots.

It also wasn't like she hated her brother. He is her brother. She wouldn't want a big social life either way, but her brother did seem to get himself into a lot of fights over her. Especially boys, since what happened in the beginning of the year. She didn't need him worrying about boys, because she never bothered. At least not anymore. She had no interest in even going near all those assholes who obviously only ever wanted one thing from a girl.

Plus, she already had her best fried, Emma. Emma was much more popular, and did actually talk to guys. And yes, everyone did know who Jesse was, but she didn't ever play into it. Emma was was extremely nice, and she was always just there. She was everything Jesse wasn't. Polite, friendly, sweet (though Jesse had her moments).

Jesse, Emma and Logan all went to Somerville North. In their town, they had two high schools. Rival ones in each sport. South Somerville and North Somerville always seemed like two different places with the rivalry. The sports program in the town is so big that they both have sports teams, including Hockey. Logan hated Somerville South hockey team. His whole team did. The rivalry only ever grew each year.

Jesse never personally interacted with any of the South hockey team players, except at parties. Parties she was forced to go to by either her brother or Emma. Even then, she never really talked to anybody. She would usually hangout with Emma, but if she wasn't there, she would just sit by herself, waiting to go home. Jesse was usually the driver for her brother home. He never allowed her to drink, like he had some authority. Jesse never really wanted to anyway, it grossed her out.

Jesse knew a lot of people at school avoided interacting with her. Many thought she was mean and un-approachable. She didn't mind though. She didn't enjoy having fake conversations with girls who pretend to know about certain sports or video games for boys. She also didn't think she was mean or unapproachable, and thought that she was open minded. She wasn't going to judge you the second you met her like the girls who assumed she was mean and unapproachable.

Matt was the Captain of Somerville South Hockey team. He was also the popular type, and more alike to Logan than he would like. Each of their teams hated each other, including themselves. Matt hated Logan just as much as Logan hated Matt.

Matt was popular with everyone in his school. He never actually dated anyone, because he didn't like the fact news like that would spread around. He also didn't like any girl at his school. They all seemed the same. Just because he didn't date any girl, everyone titled him as a "player". He really wasn't a player, he didn't ever do anything with random girls and then block them the next day. Yeah, girls liked him, so maybe that was the reason; but he never played into it.

That's why when him and a few teammates met Jesse, and found out she was Logan's sister, he was bet he couldn't get her to like him. Not only for the fact he never talked to girls, but also to throw Logan off. It was pretty easy to see she was his weak spot. Matt was also pretty confident hearing she was "unapproachable".

Matt goes into this bet to live up to his name as a "player". It all complicates everything when he finds himself actually falling. What happens when the truth comes out?
