I was not always a man, I am lucky that my Father was able to give me a diagnosis. I say father but he's my cousin on my Father's side.
When I was a boy, my name was Madison. I am transgender.
My Mom had stage four lung cancer and my Dad had leukemia, diagnosed a week apart. When they were diagnosed they reached out to foster services to see if anyone could take me.
"Maddie.." My mother said as I sat down on that chair, the grey chair in that dammed hospital room.
"Yes Mommy?" I asked.
"You have an cousin, he's on Grandma's side. He's going to take care of you after we pass."
I began to tear up.
"You're not going to pass Mommy." I said. "I pray and pray."
She exhaled and looked at me, giving me a weak smile.
"Thank you."
That was the last time I saw her.
About a week later after the funeral and the legal process, I was now Madison Lecter.
I looked at the man in the driver's seat. It was slightly raining and we had just packed my stuff.
"Would you like to talk about it?" He asked glancing up in the rear view mirror.
"No." I said looking out the window.
When we arrived at my new home I got out. It was huge.
"Welcome to Baltimore." My new guardian said walking around to my side of the car, where I stood by the door.
He grabbed my bag and took me inside.
"Sit right here, I'll be back with the rest of your belongings." He said gesturing to a nice chair.
I sat down and looked at all of the decor. It was dark and gloomy. I didn't see a tv.
Hannibal was back with my stuff. He took it up the stairs and was gone for a few minutes. I stood up and walked around. I looked at everything, I was amused. This was boring old people stuff.
"Looking for something Madison?" He asked from the top of the stairs.
"Where's the tv?" I asked as he came down.
"Haven't got one. Too bad for your mind." He joked.
My jaw dropped. I was going to hate this.
He helped me unpack and I just stayed in my room.
"I bought plenty of books." He said walking over to the bookshelf in my room.
"Thanks. I don't know how to read yet." I said looking up at him.
"I'll teach you whenever I have free time." He said giving a half smile.
I went over to the box where my toys were. I could see that mine were there along with new ones. I could tell they were new by the fact they were dolls and girly things.
I grabbed them and put them outside of the box behind it, hiding them.
Hannibal sat on my bed, the full sized bed that was definitely too big for me.
"This is going to be a rough transition. I will be here if you need to talk." He said folding his hands.
"Yes sir." I said.
He left and this began my new life.
A week later I was in my room. Bored out of my mind since there was no tv. I played on the floor with the few toys that were actually mine. The boy ones. Cars, action figures, and a fake gun. My door opened and Hannibal walked in.
