Later that night Bella and Lena sat side by side around a bonfire. Technically this one was a concil meeting but Lena had been to others like it. It still surprised her how much food all these young boys could eat. Mildly disgusted, Lena watched at Paul scarfed down the last of the hot dogs. "What?" Paul spat, his mouth full. "I'm just wondering where you're putting it all. What is that? You're tenth hotdog?" Lena shook her head. "Mind your own business leech lover." Paul growled. Lena shook her head and got up.
Lena didn't know why she was still pretending like she was part of the pack. The only ones that seemed to like her was Quil, Embry, and Jacob. Even the new wolves Leah, Seth, Brady, and Colin hadn't seemed to take a liking to her. Lena shoved her hands into her hoodie pockets as she walked away from the group. She could hear foot steps following behind her and instantly knew it was Embry. "Hey." He caught her arm. "You can't take what Paul says to heart. He's a jerk." Lena stepped out of his grasp and looked into Embry's eyes. "It's not just Paul though. Sam and Jared don't like me either. At least Paul is honest about it." Embry took a step closer and cupped her chin in one large hand. "Lena it's not like that. They just don't know how to talk to you. Vampires and werewolves weren't supposed to mix. It's all new territory for us. But you know what? I love you no matter what." Lena tried to pull away. "I know what you're going to say. You love him. But he left Lena. I'm never going to do that to you. You're my whole world." He was inches from her face now.
Embry was still under the impression that he had impression that he had imprinted on Lena the moment he saw her but there were holes in his theory. Jared and Kim's and Emily and Sam's situations were much different. They couldn't stand to be apart for long and they completed each other. It was like they were in their own little worlds. But Lena felt nothing like that for Embry. She loved Jasper. He was her soulmate and she couldn't fathom being with anyone but him. "Embry don't. You know I don't feel that way and you know deep down you haven't imprinted." Lena pulled back from him albeit with a little force. "You're wrong Lena. We're meant for each other. I'm willing to wait as long as you need." He told her. "You're delusional." She rolled her eyes and started to walk back to the fire.
They had finished up the old legends by then and Billy had requested Lena sing for them as always. "Come on, Lena Girl. Make an old man happy." Billy said after Lena had protested. She sighed and started singing The Parting Glass. It was hard to say no to Billy when he rarely asked for anything. Everyone fell silent, even Paul. Her voice carried over the silenced circle, sweet and sad.
