(This one's a little weird. I cringed writing it. Feel free to skip ahead.)
There was only less than fourty eight hours before the newborns would arrive and Jasper thought it was necessary for them to hunt one last time before the fight. Lena did not expect that she would be going with. As part vampire, Carlisle theorized that Lena would be stronger after drinking blood like the rest of them did. Lena was apprehensive to say the least. She didn't like the idea of killing anything to drink it's blood. Big game was the best but Lena was still soft and malleable. Not as much as a human but still.
Lena sat waiting to pounce at just the right moment to get the deer she had been stalking. This was her third attempt and again she had failed, tumbling through the space where the deer had been. She heard Emmett's roaring laughter. "This is ridiculous. How do you do this so easily?" Lena huffed. "Years and years of practice." Esme squeezed she shoulders reassuringly. "Youll get it."
It took a fourth and a fifth attempt but Lena finally did it. She squealed, victorious, but she still had yet to bite into the dead animal. She cringed slightly as she bit down into the flesh of the limp deer the blood wasn't as bad as she thought but it still gave her an icky feeling. Lena was met with congratulations when she had finished. "Just wait till you take down your first mountain lion." Emmett said, laughing. "I think deer is best for Lena." Jasper told his careless brother. "Oh come on. She can handle it. Don't baby her." Emmett protested.
They made their way into the mountains where the bigger game was. Lena resolved to just sit back and watch the others. She had had enough for the night. Seeing Jasper hunt was something entirely unexpected. He was so meticulous, clearly having done this a thousands of times. He had taken down a large black bear with ease. Jasper looked up to her and motioned for her to come over. "I don't feel comfortable letting you take on your own big game but carnivorous animals make us the strongest." He let her take the first pull from the animal he'd killed. The taste was better than the deer but still too much for Lena to consider making this a regular thing. Jasper had finished before the rest of his family, having already hunted just days prior. He came to Lena and sat beside her. "You know you can sit out too, be safe in the trees with Edward and Bella." He spoke so softly he was barely audible. "Not a chance. This is partly my fault. I should do everything I can to help." She protested. She would absolutely not be made to sit out especially after Edward had already backed out to stay with Bella. "I knew you probably wouldn't sit out but I wish you would." Jasper reached out and squeezed her hand. Internally he was thinking about the what ifs. What if Lena got hurt? What if Lena couldn't kill the newborns? What if Lena didn't make it? The last one was the most haunting. He couldn't live without her. He had before and what an awful existence it was.
