14 | Meet Vega

I can't believe he yelled at me. I thought maybe, just maybe, he was an okay person.

 I skate home with a flurry of thoughts deep in my mind, all consisting of Adrain. Recently, he's been on my mind more than I'd like.

Why?

Who knows.

I slam the door shut behind me and throw my backpack on the ground followed by my longboard.

"What happened?" Zeke asks, his head poking out from behind the couch. Great, now i have to deal with him.

"Nothing." i snap at him and head upstairs.

"Kai..." he says quietly.

"What?" i turn around.

"I want to make up for what Iris and I did.."

I can't ignore him much longer, i live with him for God's sake. We're going to have to make up at some tim and now was the time.

"...sure." i say before turning around.

His face automatically lights up, "Yes, okay let me get my keys." He jumps up from the couch and walks towards the basement. I sit on the bottom step and wait for him to return. My mind still fogged up at the thought of Adrian and I this morning.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by the jingling of keys and the sound of Zeke slipping his grey Vans on.

"Alright let's go." He says with a smile.

I get out and follow him out to his banged up silver Mercedes.

After about a thirty minute drive, we pulled up at an adoption center. I helplessly smiled at Zeke and he smiled back.

"You aren't..." I start.

"I am." he says confidently.

We get out of his car and into the building. Immediately i can hear the barking of dogs and meowing of cats. One lucky creature would get to return home with us today.

" Hello! How can i help you?" a blonde woman behind the counter spoke up in perky voice. She looked in her mid twenties.

"We're looking to adopt a kitten." Zeke says.

"Right this way." The lady beams with a pearly white smile before taking us to a door labeled 'cats'.

She holds the door open for us, i go in and Zeke behind me.

It's a single hall, cages line the walls on both sides. I slowly make my way down the hall looking left and right at the cats. Black, white, spotted, calico, fluffy, skinny it seemed that every possible type of cat was harbored here at this shelter. I just wanted to keep them all. Zeke stopped at little bengal spotted kitten and fiddled with its little paw that was hanging out.

I continued looking at the critters, saying hello as i passed by. It wasn't till i spotted a little, fluffy white paw poking out and clawing at my ankle. I kneeled down to look at the little beasty. I read the little tag attached to the cage;

Name: n/a

Sex: Female

Age: 6 weeks

Color: White

Eyes: Blue and Green

Blue and green?

I take a look at the kitten, her paw retracts back into the cage and she sits still looking straight at me. She did in fact have different colored eyes. The left was blue, right green.

"Zeke."

"Find one?" he asks.

"Yup." i say with a smile.

Minutes later i'm walking out of the adoption center with a little ball of fluff in my hands. We hop into the car and start naming. We come up with things like Opal, Willow, Snowy, ect.

"What about Vega?" I say softly while gently petting the kittens fur, she just blinks at me.

"It's your cat." Zeke chuckles.

"Vega it is." I smile. "That you so much, Zeke."

"Anything for my little sister. And i'm sorry about the whole Iris dealio..."

"Do you love her?"

"I wish is didn't." He replied, turning into our drive way.

"Then it's okay i guess." I shrug and unbuckle my seat belt. As i got out of the car and opened the front door, Zeke called over to me from the mailbox.

"I set a litter box in the laundry room and bowls in the kitchen by the back porcj door."

"Thanks!" i yell over my shoulder and set Vega down on the carpet right in front of my shoes.

"Welcome to your new home, babe." I smile.
