I typically like school. Why? Because it gives me something to do. Lunch time had stuck and i was at my normal table with my only two friends.
"Adrian, dude, seriously?" Cameron asks in disbelief.
"Yes, seriously." I say while picking at my pizza.
I had just explained to him and Sam that i heard Kai, Nico, and her other two buddies just going at it. There was yelling, cussing, someone called someone a slut. Some juicy stuff.
"Come on dude, tell us everything." Sam says through a mouthful of pizza.
"Alright so," I lean forward and rest my elbows on the cafeteria table. "It was around 8:55 when i saw Kai pull up on that longboard of hers, i guess she called up the others because about five minutes later, Nico showed up then Iris and then Lola-" Cameron cuts me off.
"Bro, Lola is hot" He reports.
"Sure she is but listen is gets better. Kai walks them out to the edge of the sand and damn does she look angry"
They both stare at me, waiting for me to continue.
"She goes, asks Nico what's going on between him and Lola and oh my god," i chuckle "You should've seen his face. He went so pale and looked panicked. So long story short, Lola sorta explained that they've been sleeping around together, which i totally saw, coming Kai yelled at both of them, called Lola a slut, and then finds out that the little boho chick has been sleeping with her brother, Zeke." I say on one breath.
Sam shakes his head slowly, "I kind of fell bad for her, the way she acted with Nico had everyone convinced they were the happiest and least problematic couple in school."
"Totally." Cameron agrees, finishing his pizza. "You gonna eat that?" He adds, pointing to my slice.
"No." I say, my eyes are fixed on little Kai sitting across the lunch room alone, a book in her hands with no lunch. Her unusual lilac hair is left in a braid down her back.
Recently, she looked different. She looked deprived of life. Her eyes didn't shine as brightly, her skin was pale, bags under her eyes had started to form, and she looked a little skinnier.
Just a bad break up, happens to everyone. I think to myself, pushing away the feeling of pity i felt towards her.

At the end of our last period i saw her standing by her locker, eyeballing Nico who had Lola pressed up against the wall, an arm above her head for support and the other lifting her chin up for a kiss. Right before their lips met, Kai looked away as quickly as possible, slammed her locker harder than i have ever seen, and walked away towards the school doors; towards me. Her face held no expression but in her eyes i could clearly tell that she was angry and hurt.
As she zoomed by, her shoulder ran into my forearm.
Maybe this is my chance to say something to her. No, i'm the bad boy. I don't care.
Our eyes meet, just for a split moment. In that moment in her eyes in could just see her whole world crumbling apart. Her happiness had been swept away by the tides of betrayal.
She didn't say anything, her eyes did the talking .
