The bell rings, signaling for us the get the hell out. Jake and Riley start packing up their bags, while I stand near my desk everything already neatly packed away. I like to be ready early, always packing my stuff away minutes before I know the bell will ring.
"Ready?" I ask, slinging the strap of my backpack over my right should. Riley nod and Jake says a quick yeah before we're on our way.
"Well, Jake and I have study hall next period so we'll go that way," Riley says, pointing in the opposite direction of which I'm heading.
"Okay guys, I'll see you at lunch then, I gotta head to A.P. bio." I wave my hands to signal saying goodbye and walking of.
After just a quick few seconds I make it to class, opening the door to walk in. I look for an empty table near the end of the room, making a beeline for the one I spot in the back left-hand corner.
The tables are exactly what you'd expect for biology, black paint, partly chipped off in some places. The table is just enough room for two people to sit at, and the metal stools are as uncomfortable as you can imagine.
People start filing in as I look around the room, noticing the plethora of diagrams splattered on the fades yellow walls.
By now, most people have gotten here when the bell rang, leaving the only seat open the one next to me. People tend to be a bit intimidated by me, but that could just be in me head considering I don't really talk to anyone outside of my circle.
The teacher goes to the front of the class, writing her name in messy scribbles atop the smart board at the front of the class. She opens her mouth to speak, when we hear a small knock at the door.
The teacher turns her head and walks over to the door. Her hand reaches for the handle, turning it and opening the door for the person on the other end.
A girl with pastel blue hair cut into a wolf cut walks past the teacher and into the classroom. Her dark faded jeans and a white tee with a plaid over shirt on top. Something in my head rings out, telling me information I suspect to be true. I shake my head out of the thoughts.
Remember be normal, be perfect.
I see them talking about something, and the teacher points in my direction, well more at the empty seat that is on my right. I widen my eyes, feeling my heart pick up it's pace, almost as if it's preparing me for battle.
I take in a deep breath and release. Everything will be okay. It has to be.
She starts walking in my direct, picking here leg up to slide onto the uncomfortable stool. She turns her head, a smile forming on her pink lips. "Hi! I'm new here. Name's Skylar but everyone tends to call me Sky," she reaches her hand out for me to shake.
I hesitantly reach up, clasping her hand in mine in a firm shake. "I'm Lauren but you can call me Laur," I say, doing my best to give her a smile.
There was a small silence after that, not yet awkward but it could have gotten their if it wasn't for the fact that our teacher brings to speak.
"Okay, everyone! The person that you are sitting with today will be your partner for the rest of the year," everyone in the room looks at the person they are currently sitting next to. "We will have a few big projects this year, and you and your partner must work together on each one."
It looks to me that most people got paired with their friends. Meanwhile I'm stuck with the new girl.
My eyes drag over to her and give her a quick once over. Not that I exactly mind, she seems cool. I'm always down to make new friend, not that I have many anyways.
