It's been a couple weeks since my talk with Sky. We've gone out a few times since, not a date or anything, but just going to a café and talking. And it felt good. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda scared. Scared of being myself, scared of being found out. But somehow, she's been able to make me feel comfortable. Something I haven't felt in such a long time.
The bell rings out, snapping me out of my thoughts as I look around confused. I see kids scrambling to pack up their stuff to get to their next class. Riley and Jake are standing near me, waiting for me to get my stuff all set.
"I'm surprised you don't have everything packed already," Riley says, giving me a knowing look.
"Yeah, it feels like you've been off today. Like you're here but not really here," Jake chimes in.
I give them a quick sideways glance as I just finish putting everything away and standing up.
"Sorry, guys. My thoughts have been elsewhere lately," I say, noticing the look of concern on their faces.
Jake places his hand on my shoulder, "it's okay Laur, but you can talk to me if something is going on." He places a chaste kiss on my cheek. I know I should feel comforted by that, but I know who I am, and it gave me chills down my back. But I try to brush it off.
Act normal.
"Anyways, we should head to our next class," Riley says abruptly, distracting Jake from the moment he thought we were having.
Thank you, Riley!
I nod my head and sling my backpack over my shoulder. We walk out of class and say our goodbyes for now as I head to biology. A class Skylar and I both share. And a class that we're partners in. I feel myself become giddy, a skip in my step as I walk down the halls.
Just before I make it to class, I hear someone call my name. I turn my head and stop my movements in confusion. A girl with light brown hair runs up to me. I think her name was Harriet or something. I quirk my head to the side, waiting for her to make it over to me.
"Hey, sorry about suddenly calling you like that, I wanted to warn you," she says, panting lightly.
"Warn me?" I ask. "About what?"
"I know you've been hanging out with Skylar lately. And I wanted to tell you she's bad news," she says, her breathing now evening out.
"Bad news?" I cross my arms, my eyebrow raised. "Why is that?"
"Well I heard that in her last school, she tried to force herself on a girl," she says, a look of disgust clearly showing on her face. "She's a complete dyke."
Now I'm getting impatient, my foot rapidly tapping on the ground to insure I don't punch her in the face. "Why are you spreading rumors? We don't know if that's true," I huff out.
And it's not true. She was just defending herself.
"But have you seen her? Everything about her screams lesbo," Harriet grumbles out.
"Just because of the way she looks?" I question her, gritting my teeth. She just had to ruin my good mood.
"Fine don't believe me, but if she forces herself on you, I wouldn't be surprised," she huffs out before turning on her heel and stomping away.
What the hell is her problem?
I hear the bell ring, signaling I was gonna be late. I'm only a few meters from class so I sprint over. Seeing that the door was closed, I softly knock. I hear footsteps slowly walk over before the door opens showing the teacher with a scowl on her face.
