Wings

Chapter 2

It was early in the morning and Olivia was sound asleep in her bed. She felt nice and comfortable and warm that she didn't even want to leave her bed. But her head was awake, it was the day she went to a new school. Her head knew exactly that Cindy would come to wake her up. And she is correct. Olivia heard her door open and footsteps coming toward her. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she was gently shaken.

Olivia opened her eyes and yawned. After she finished, she looked at Cindy. "Hm?"

Cindy smiled gently. "Hey, Sleeping Beauty. Time to get up."

Olivia sat up straight and stretched herself fully, her arms above her head. After this was done, she got off her bed and closed her door as Cindy left her room so she could put on her clothes. She is not a fan, especially of jeans and clothes that are tight. Since it is always cold during the fall and winter, Olivia wears a purple hoodie to keep herself warm. Since she has wings, she created two holes in her hoodie so they are out. Tight clothes make her wings feel sore unless they have holes, so they are out. And Olivia, unfortunately, was wearing a tight hoodie.

After this was done, Olivia went to the refectory or cafeteria where the other kids were sitting. It was the largest room that there was in the building where the girl lived. Cindy ate in another part of the building where there were other people like her. The bedrooms are upstairs, while the cafeteria is downstairs, and also the kitchen where the cooks work. After Olivia stepped into the cafeteria, she raised her head in bravery and walked toward the row, a few steps away. But as she passed the tables, she heard some comments or whispers from the others about her and her wings. That broke Olivia up inside. Victims who are lonely or bullied, for example, can experience such things where others talk about them behind their backs, and the girl is one of them who has to go through this. Olivia is different, not only because of her wings, but also because she was lonely before that. No one thought she was cool or friendly for wanting to be her friend. On one hand, she wished she had friends to chat with or spend time together, but on the other hand, she sometimes feels she would be better off being alone.

Olivia ignored those words and whispers about her and joined the row. It didn't take long, thankfully, before it was her turn. First, of course, was breakfast and the children could choose whether to get food at school or bring food from the orphanage. But getting food from school costs some money and Olivia didn't like to bother with money. She can't handle the money she gets from Cindy secretly. You know ... pocket money. The girl sat at her table where she was alone and started to eat.

After Olivia finished eating, she took her plate to the other table where the other pile of dirty plates was and put it down there. She immediately left the place by going to her room to get her backpack that was on her desk. She picked it up and put it over her back, carful with her wings. She had all the necessary things in it, such as her textbooks, a lunch box, and others she needed for school. Olivia left her room and locked her door. She put her key in her pocket and left in the direction of her new school. Cindy had to go to work but gave the girl the school address. The girl hesitated a little to leave because it would probably be the same for her they would stare at her and talk about her. She had already gone through enough things in the orphanage. If the students at the school would also cause her problems, then Olivia doesn't know what to do. But she will definitely talk to Cindy about it.

The orphanage was close to the school she went to now. Many kids are even younger than Olivia herself and went to another school where kids younger than 12 or 13 study there. Olivia is 16 and so, is going to a new high school. She hopes no one will constantly bother her just because she has wings.
