Trina's face after she left Rory's memorial service with Marshall two days remained on Spencer's mind. He'd been in awe of her before, but after hearing her speak about her friend and his bravery, Spencer knew that having another chance to be in Trina's life - even as a fake boyfriend - was not to be wasted.
Which would explain why he'd been up for hours, trying to think of something he could do to see her smile. Anything to take Trina's mind off of her problems, at least for a little while. With him residing at Wyndermere, per uncle Victor's "request", he had resigned to the guest quarters. They just so happen to be in the wing furthest away from everyone else, including his father.
Trying in vain to not let his thoughts drift to Nicholas' latest dismal and tacky betrayal, Spencer paced the living floor, running a hand through his hair. "How can a father be so disappointing?"
He muttered out loud within the empty room.
As he did, something his uncle Cyrus said to him, something about "the sins of the father" played in his mind. Soon a memory of the parting gift Cyrus gave him as he left Pentonville, two small white turtle doves entered his mind, causing Spencer to look up at the long antique mirror above the fireplace. He watched as a smile appeared on his lips. That's it! I'm sure Trina will love them.
Making his way to the double doors of the living room, Spencer swung the doors wide and began to take the stairs two at a time before stopping. Wait! I don't have them anymore.
Remembering the last time he had the turtle doves - the night he was released from prison and he ran into Trina with Rory at the PC Grill - he hung his head while walking back down the stairs.
Lost in his failed plan, Spencer didn't notice that he was no longer alone. While in the foyer, he almost bumped into uncle Victor and the last person he wanted to see.
"Spencer!" Victor greeted with a smile, until Spencer looked his way.
"Well, what has you looking so forlorn?" Victor asked
Seeing his uncle's growing concern, Spencer answered quickly, "It's nothing. I just seem to have misplaced something, that's all."
Nicholas stepped forward, but as Victor raised a hand to his face, he stopped.
"Is that so?" Victor confirmed before adding, "Can we help?"
"I wanted to...no. Though thank you uncle, for offering."
Spencer went to turn down the hallway to go to the stables, but his uncle called out to him again. As he turned to look at Victor, he saw the older man reach into the inside of his blazer and produce a small white box. A royal blue ribbon was wrapped around it. Spencer tried to keep a straight face as he locked eyes with his uncle.
"You wouldn't happen to mean this, would you?"
"Uncle! How..?
Victor's laughter boomed throughout the foyer, "My dear boy, you should know by now that nothing is beyond my reach."
He made his way toward his uncle, ignoring Nicholas' silent glare as Victor handed him the box. "On the night of your release, when you left Ms. Robinson's table in a hurry, I procured these after you so carelessly failed to retrieve them from the restaurant."
"Th-thank you uncle."
"You are quite welcome. I suppose you have decided that now is the time to try again to give them to the lovely Trina?"
Spencer looked down and opened the box. Seeing the two turtle doves securely inside, he closed it and grinned.

With Cameron's help, Spencer didn't have to look too long for Trina. After calling his cousin, he learned that Trina was outside waiting to meet Josslyn after her volleyball practice.
That's perfect! He thought excitedly. I can surprise Trina with my 'unexpected visit' and give her the doves before she sees Joss.
Though once he saw Trina in the distance, as she sat on the bench outside of Kelly's dinner with her nose in a book, Spencer slowed his steps. What if she doesn't want to see me? I mean, we've been putting on appearances around town to lure out Esme, but would she think the gift is too much?
Finding himself reconsidering his plan, Spencer could only stare at Trina. Their friendship was important to him, it had been the one bright spot in his life since returning to Port Charles. And he almost ruined it while dating Esme, more times than he could count. Now that he was no longer with the latter, Spencer didn't want to jeopardize what he had with Trina again. Even though a part of him wondered how long he could keep pretending to be her boyfriend.
Thoughts of being with her, for real and not just for show, were happening more frequently than ever. But since Rory's death, he promised not only Trina, but also himself that he would be whatever she needed. No matter what.
Spencer used the last few moments alone to clear his thoughts before forcing a smile onto his face. He knew Trina was aware of his presence as her face turned toward his direction and she beamed at him, immediately speeding up his heartbeat with each step.
"Hey. How did you know I was here?" Trina asked brightly.
Not wanting to admit that he was looking for her, Spencer responded with a teasing question of his own, "And why would you think I was looking for you?"
Her nose twitched slightly just before she scrunched it and smiled, causing Spencer to resist the urge to bring her face closer when he joined her on the bench. "Oh, okay then. So what brings you by Kelly's then?"
"This." Reaching into his coat, Spencer took out the white box and held it up for Trina to see. "I wanted to give this to you for a while now, but with everything that happened with your mom and Rory..the timing was never right."
When Trina accepted the box from him, Spencer admired her deep brown skin as the setting sun casted the last of its rays on her face. He briefly found himself thinking about the long thick braids she had months ago and his hands itched to touch the end of her jet black hair. Hearing her gasp, Spencer was brought back to the moment and focused his eyes on Trina while she stared down at the opened box.
"Spencer! These are...they're beautiful."
"You really like them?" He asked.
As she looked at him, Spencer felt his heart grow in size when she leaned closer to kiss his cheek. "I do! When did you learn to make these?"
Her question should have been one he was prepared for, but Spencer wasn't. Of course she'd want to know that.
One thing he was learning was how to be honest, largely due to Trina. Maybe that was why it was hard for him to do so right now. He wanted to be truthful, but also didn't want to upset her. Sighing, Spencer thought a little longer about what to say. Once he had the words, he spoke gently.
"I had help."
"Your uncle Victor?"
Spencer eyed her slowly before looking off in the distance and then meeting her stare. "My uncle Cyrus. While we were together during my time in Pentonville."
