Sunny and Basil couldn't stay out for much longer, as much as they would've liked to. The cold was setting in and it had been a tiring day—not just physically. After a little while of talking about everything and nothing, Basil spoke up.
"Do you wanna head to bed now, Sunshine?" he asked quietly, patting Sunny on the shoulder.
"Mm... okay," Sunny hummed, holding onto Basil's arm with both of his own. He could still feel his stomach doing backflips from their talk earlier.
I'm in love.
And it wasn't just a little childhood crush. Sunny was in love, and had been for a long, long time.
And he wasn't just in love with anyone. Sunny was in love with Basil. Even thinking his name sent ripples up Sunny's spine.
You're hopeless.
Sunny still felt like he was in a haze as he headed to their tent with Basil after putting out the fire. It was cold inside—unsurprisingly—but there was a small electric lantern illuminating the bright green fabric of the tent, along with two sleeping bags: one black, one floral-patterned.
It took Sunny several seconds to notice Basil gently tugging on his sleeve. He gave his best friend a nod to show he was listening, hoping the flush had faded from his face by now.
(With how warm his cheeks felt, there was no way it had.)
"I... uh... can't help but notice that it's a bit cold in here. Probably should've guessed that it would be, considering the hour, heh..." Basil looked away sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "What I'm trying to say is-"
"I'd prefer it if we used your sleeping bag," Sunny cut him off, guessing what he was getting at.
"H-huh- oh. I'd be fine with that!" Basil smiled, a dusting of pink still across his cheeks.
That makes sense. He probably finds this embarrassing. You don't, but embarrassment isn't why you're blushing right now, is it?
Sunny let Basil crawl into the sleeping bag first, then slipped in after him.
How am I supposed to sleep after all this-
Sunny's violently gay thoughts came to a screeching halt as he felt Basil huddle up to him, wrapping his arms around his midsection and nuzzling his best friend's chest.
"Good night," Basil murmured softly into the fabric of Sunny's t-shirt, eyes already closed.
How am I supposed to sleep when he's this distracting?
Sunny rested his head on top of Basil's, hugging him back, and whispered, "'Night." He sighed, still smelling flowers in Basil's hair.
Now, Sunny thought, just what the fuck are you supposed to do?
He was in love with his best friend. He'd already thought about it a few minutes ago, but it made him shiver internally again.
Well, first off and for a multitude of reasons, you can never tell him.
He'd...
It's unlikely he'd hate you, considering he's into boys, too, but... that he's also into boys. But you're into girls, aren't you? What about Aubrey and the... Slime Girls...
