all throughout lunch, huening kai made the whole table laugh several times, cracking funny jokes. i got to know him and his friends better. this was great. especially because the party's tomorrow!!

wait a minute. that's what i forgot! i need an outfit for the party. i can just ask brianna or riley, because my closet is full of hoodies and sweatpants.

i got so distracted by this that i kinda forgot about the fact that i was in the middle of a conversation with my crush and his friends.

huening kai finally caught my attention after several minutes of me in my own world.

huening kai: "so, y/n, we're throwing a party tomorrow! you coming??"

i looked up from my lunch tray. "of course i am! it's gonna be so epic." i smiled. had i finally crawled out of my shell and somehow mustered up the courage to have a conversation with him?? i guess so.

lunch was amazing. i got to know huening kai a lot better and found out that he really likes space. school went by fast. mom pulled up to the front and i got into the car. once i was home, i immediately ran upstairs to call my friends. when they picked up, i almost started rambling about my chat with huening kai. then i stopped myself and remembered the real reason i called.

 "midlife crisis. i don't have an outfit for tomorrow! y'all got anything i could borrow??"

 brianna: "mhm! i'll give it to you at school tomorrow."

 riley: "idea!! y/n, how about we all go over to yours after school and help each other get ready. don't worry, me and bri can help with your makeup!"

 that was the thing about brianna and riley. they are popular and in with all the gossip, while i just kinda blend in. i don't know a thing about fashion,makeup,or boys. i'm too busy trying to get into princeton for college. sure, it's all the way in america. but it's my dream. i can't let trying to be popular get in the way of that.

 "sounds great. thanks girls. see you tomorrow!!"

 with that, i hung up. i decided that if i wanted to impress huening kai, i would have to do my space research. i've never been too big on science, but this was for hyuka, not for me.

i stayed up all night studying space. the next morning, i got ready, super tired. before leaving, i reminded myself to just smile.

the next day, i walked into school. brianna and riley ran up to me.

brianna: "i'm so pumped!! we're gonna crush this."

 riley:"don't be silly, brianna banana. y/n is still figuring it out. let's move at her pace for once??"

bri laughed. "okay. and call me that one more time, i'll have you dead before you can even see the door into that party!!"

 we all laughed and did our handshake. i spotted huening kai,beomgyu,soobin,taehyun,and yeonjun. "gotta bounce. see ya!" i took a deep breath and walked over to the group. huening kai was the first one to greet me (again.)

 "yo! what up?" he exclaimed.

 "super pumped for the party later." i said happily. we continued talking and i think his friends took a liking to me easily. i was starting to get why my friends had always told me it's better to be seen than invisible. huening kai gave me a fist bump as we parted. "sit with us at lunch again?" i nodded and walked away.

english class came. i sat down next to huening kai and started the conversation.

 "space, huh? what's your favorite part of it?"

 "easy. the eclipses. i love lunar eclipses the most though. most people like solar eclipses, but i find the lunar ones much more fascinating. "

he went on and on about how space was like art and the sky was the canvas. i couldn't help but blush a little at the excited look in his eyes when he talked about this stuff. the english teacher even had to tell us to pay attention at some point. now i realize why my friends are so fascinated with boys. they're fascinated with boys in the same way that huening kai is fascinated with space, and i was starting to think that i was fascinated with boys, too.

later at lunch, me and huening kai talked to each other more than anyone else at the table. when i explained my college situation, he complimented my hard work and perseverance. he made me feel really special, like i was doing something many people don't do. i think he's right. some people would kill to be as hard working as me, as he said.

i got home and less than an hour later, bri and riley showed up. they were both wearing super cute dresses with their hair curled and makeup done. they looked super pretty. 

 "how am i supposed to look like THAT before 8:00?!"

 "watch and learn." riley said, smirking.

they had me ready by 7:30. i looked in the mirror, not even recognizing the person in my reflection. i was wearing a sparkly dark blue dress. my hair and makeup were done.

"woah.. i look like a-"

brianna:"princess." she smiled and high-fived riley.

my mom drove us there. we finally got to huening kai's house, and boy was it huge. it was a modern white mansion. i could hear music blasting. we started walking in. i stopped short.
"wait, guys. what am i supposed to do?? i don't know how to act. first high school party, hello??

riley:"act like you've been to a rager before. just be yourself, but less nerdy. don't do anything you don't want to."

brianna:"oh, and anything that's illegal is legal at a rager. so drink away!!"

i frowned a bit. boys and drinking?? that isn't half as much fun as they made it sound. i tried to shake it off and walked in. my eyes widened at the size of the house. how was i gonna find huening kai and keep up with my friends in this place??

i shook my head and started gravitating around the house. i couldn't find him anywhere!! i decided to head upstairs and find his room. at first i couldn't find it, but then i realized one closed door. i knocked lightly, but i don't think anybody heard me over the music so i opened the door. i found huening kai and his friends playing beer pong. kai looked amazing... i had a hard time not running up to him and kissing him.

beomgyu:"hey guys look it's y/n! now we have enough for two teams!!"

"oh i don't think i should-"

huening kai:"y/n!! you made it!! do you pong??"

"uh- yeah?" i lied.

i watched them play and honestly got a little nervous. when it was finally my turn, my ball landed in the cup perfectly. it was actually a lot of fun. my friends were sooo right. the party started coming to an end and almost everyone left except for his friends and mine. my friends waited for me at the door. i started to walk downstairs when i had an urge.

"guys i'll meet you in the car."

i wobbled back upstairs to huening kai's room, a little drunk.

"hey i just wanted to say thank you. i had a lot of fun tonight, which, i didn't think i would, and you pushed me out of my comfort zone."

huening kai got up from where he was sitting.

"you're so welcome, y/n. you also inspired me to look for a new side of myself."

he walked up to me and opened his arms for a hug. i made a face at first, but then i just accepted it. i waved goodbye to him and his friends and walked downstairs to the car. all i could think about on the car ride home was..

was it because he was drunk, or did he actually mean to hug me??

my mom dropped off bri and riley and we finally reached home. as i lay in bed later that night, i assumed that he was just too drunk because he could never genuinely get along with a loser like me.

right??

i fell asleep, dreaming of the next party i would go to.

my one wish for the next one, though??

that he liked me back.
