Morgan
Her head buzzed as she tried to adjust to the bright sunlight that was pouring in through the windows. In an attempt to shield her eyes Morgan pulled a pillow over her head and couldn't help but groan into it. Last night was fucked up and she knew she'd have a lot of questions to answer once she finally left her room. She couldn't help but hope that Carlos had settled everything between her and his family the night before.
Speaking of the devil. She raised her head from the couch to see if he was still in bed but found it empty. His scent was still in the room, a mix of clove and mint but there was no sign of him anywhere. She rolled her eyes at the already made bed and the pillows that were neatly plopped up against the headrest. He was such a neat freak she had the half mind to go pull the sheets out. She pushed those thoughts aside and made her way to the bathroom before running a much needed warm shower to break through her hangover. All freshened up she slipped into a comfortable pair of shorts and a plain white shirt. Quickly dusting a light layer of makeup over her face she fixed her hair up and left the room to find Carlos and his parents seated at the kitchen table.
"Oh look who finally decided to show up," his father exclaimed as he beckoned her over with his spatula, "Theres some warm pancakes and coffee for you," he said gesturing towards the table where a wide spread lay.
"There's also tea," Carlos said making a face at her. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him and his words, he shot her smug smile.
Sitting at the table she was glad that there was no weird sympathetic energy going on between Carlos and her. The last thing she wanted was his pity. "Would you like some syrup with those?" his mother asked as she passed Morgan the bottle of syrup. "Thank you, Mrs Vasquez-,"
"Oh don't call me that honey, call me Reyes!" his mother said with a bright smile, "You're practically family after all. With everything you're risking for Carlos and his safety!"
"Oh don't worry about that! It's my job after all and rest assured I'm very good at it," Morgan said giving Reyes a wink. His mother beamed at her before setting out to berate Carlos on his bad habit of inhaling food like he was a hungry caveman in front of company. "That's totally fine! Carlos loves breakfast, I've seen him wolf down three entire bowls of granola in one sitting," Morgan said. She heard his father laugh as he joined them at the table, "This boy eats like someone's going to grab his plate and have a go at it,".
"What? I like my breakfast,"
"That you do," Morgan said.
He rolled his eyes at her but continued scarfing down his food. She took her time with the pancakes and joined in on the conversation every now and then. It looked like yesterday's incident was long forgotten and all the family wanted was to move forward. She respected that and admired how they put up a strong front in times like this. "So Morgan," Reyes started as she piled more pancakes on her plate amidst Morgan's protests, "Are you looking forward to the party?" she asked as she drizzled syrup on her plate.
Her eyebrows furrowed and she shared a confused look with Carlos, "What party?" she asked as she turned back to Reyes.
Reyes shook her head at Carlos, "I thought you would've told her about this!" she scolded.
Carlos shrugged, still engrossed in his breakfast. "I was going to but she slept in," he looked up at her, "You surely love to sleep don't you?".
"You exhaust me."
He shot her a wink at that and she resisted the urge to stab him with her fork in front of his parents. Of course he'd only interpret the innuendo in that statement.
Reyes was shaking her head at her son, clearly disappointed at his immature ass. His father on the other hand couldn't hide the grin on his face.
"Anyways, getting back to your question," Reyes said shooting an irritated look at her husband, "We throw an annual Christmas party each year, it's going to be at the vineyard and there's going to be a lot more guests this year-,"
