The following day, the newly formed duo set out at dawn. They had spent part of the previous evening getting to know each other better, after which Lexi suggested getting some sleep.
They had packed up and Lexi had found one of those insulated bags that keep things cold and packed as many of the blood bags as she could fit into it for Kol since they didn't know when they would see actual people again and Lexi didn't want to offer up a vein for the vampire to feed from so that was the solution for him to carry the bag with as many of the blood bags as they could fit into it.
Kol looked at the dark-haired girl, as they walked, "What are you going to do if they aren't there?"
Lexi faltered, she hadn't thought about that "I- I have no idea, I didn't think about that I was so focused on getting home and hopefully finding them there, I didn't stop to think about them not being there..." she blew out a breath "hopefully even if they aren't there they got somewhere safe."
Kol nodded at her, and they continued their trek, while making small talk, Kol was learning more about Lexi and vice versa.
Lexi had told him more about her dad, Sarah, and her uncle Tommy and in turn, Kol told her about his siblings, and then he started chuckling, making Lexi look at him, "What's so funny?"
He grinned at her, "Just imagining the heart attack my brother Nik is gonna have if he comes and finds my coffin empty and his precious dagger missing."
Lexi chuckled, unfazed, "Well, I needed a better weapon than the little pocket knife I was carrying around... thought I was just stealing from a dead man, but hey, we both got something out of this, you got woken up, and I got a cool dagger and a traveling buddy."
Kol chuckled lightly, and the original found it strange that he was able to take pleasure in the fiery brunette's company, despite having only met her the previous day. Something about her intrigued him, he just didn't know what that was yet, but he had hoped that he could figure it out.
The duo arrived in the Austin city limits, "just a little further now." Lexi said as she saw the sign. She hoped that they were there, but she knew that it was likely that they fled to find safety after whatever happened. Perhaps she could find a clue about where they went in the house. She sure hoped so.
"Are you okay there?" Kol questioned after Lexi had fallen silent.
"Yeah, just worried about my family, I know that finding them at the house is highly unlikely, but maybe I can find something to point me in the right direction as to where they could have gone.' Kol nodded at her, from what she'd told him, her family was very tight-knit.
"We'll find them, Lexi, no matter how long it takes... you have my word on that." he doesn't know what had possessed him to promise her that, but deep down the Original knew that he would keep that promise no matter what he had to do, which was also strange, and he didn't understand why.
Lexi smiled at him, she was also surprised about that, "thank you, Kol." the two walked in comfortable silence as they grew closer to Lexi's childhood home. The Latina subconsciously grabbed the Original's hand as they turned down what used to be her street.
Kol looked down, feeling her grab his hand, and a slight smile slipped on his face at the sight of their now connected hands, he wouldn't admit it but he kind of liked the feeling of Lexi's hand in his, which the thought made him blink slightly confused at where that came from, but he lightly squeezed her hand. As they walked up onto the porch.
